Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34139889 Sperm is just like any other cell of the body - all of which are alive. Once it has left the protective environment of your body - it lives off a reserved amount of energy - and dies briefly after. That makes sense! So what about the egg? |

It's the same - Egg cells are alive. Even in the medical dictionary you will read the words "Alive" when they are describing the fertilization AND pre-fertilization of egg cells. Another way to look at it - In order to keep egg cells "alive" we must freeze them to slow down the amount of energy used. |

It's not 'human' life though - it's cellular - think on the same level as bacteria - single job - single purpose - single action It does one thing - one thing only - no chaos. It's not the type of life that at this point in time we care to protect or think is complex enough to believe it has any sort of awareness. |

The egg is produced from the womans body. Therefore it is just a lump that cant move or do anything except bob around in its own fluids until the part the man contributes swims along..all full of life and purpose with its mission focussed one track mind..and penetrates the egg..thus making it useful. The egg..like the woman who made it..is utterly useless and meaningless until the sperm penetrates it..the eggs ONLY purpose in life is to be penetrated..just like the woman who spawned it. |

It's called Meiosis The sperm are replicants of sperm which are replicants of sperm and so on and so on They even 'migrate' after being 'born' and 'mature.' Sperms are cells - cells reproduce by division |
