Prepping for economic doom. What's my next move?
I can feed my family for several months with just what I have on hand. I have a home defense shotgun and a few rounds of ammo. I've got 30 gallons of non-ethanol gasoline w/ stabil that I just put aside last week. I have a thousand dollars in the bank, which I'm taking out today. What do I do with this money?

Do I keep it?

Do I buy silver?

Do I buy more supplies?

I feel the time is short. This may well be my last splurge. There are so many potentialities that I'm frozen about what to do. My wife has a very secure state government job. So long as her income keeps coming in we can pay what few bills we have. Failing that my extended family has 60+ acres held in trust. There is a house, wells, barns, and arable land there. That will be our go-to spot if things turn very bad. I'm not the only one in my family thinking that that land may be our savior.

My gut instinct is to spend a couple hundred dollars on more supplies and stash the rest.

Suggestions?

Besides food, you should also stock up on basics you need for everyday life. Things like toothpaste, toilet paper, famine products, anything you need for day-to-day life that may soon become impossible to get if stores close. Make sure you have the ability to stay warm and cook if the power goes off. Also, if you have any prescription medicine that you need, stock up while you can. Also, a few barrels to collect and store water, as well as some bleach to purify it should be at the top of your list. Also, make sure you research any info you want now while the internet is still up.

Thinking longer term, make sure you have some heirloom seeds and gardening equipment, as well as books on gardening if you don't already have them.

A small panel (10 Watt) and 1000 Watt inverter would be a wise investment as you could pull the battery out of your car, charge it with the solar panel and then charge cell phones, or run useful appliances. If you could afford it, go with 40 watts of panels and a 1500 watt inverter.

A little junk silver would be ok, as would some barter items like booze, cigarettes, and ammo.

There will be no coming out of it on the other side.
The electricity will go off for good. Nuclear blasts will cause Nuclear winter and food will not grow. Prepare to live deep underground or freeze where you sit.
Any survivors that can move will band into marauding zombie cannibals. There will be no dry wood so they will eat human flesh raw.
You voted for "Change" now you will see it.

you can buy fish or horse antibiotics online and they are made at human food grade. Store them in a cold cellar or your freezer and they will be good for 10+ years. There are good articles on google about what to buy. If you have kids, a cough can quickly turn into pneumonia or a headache an ear infection. If for some reason the electricity goes off and stays off or there is a large disruption with your water, having antibiotics for stomach bacteria is something we aren't used to much in the U.S. but plenty of people around the world die from water borne bacteria. Dosage levels are online for age/weight, make sure to print those out and keep handy. If you are somehow healthy through everything, they will make for priceless barters for desperate parents and others. What wouldn't you pay for medicine to save your spouse/child/parent?

More ammo. What about a way to get water purified? The ability to cook when the power goes off for good is gonna be a really big thing.

Glad to hear you have land available for growing. But for the shorter term, have you considered sprouting? Be sure to have several types of seeds for that, and a way (or several ways) to do the sprouting. Lots of good books on that. Check your local library before deciding on the book for you. The one I bought is rife with bad puns... but then again it makes for a bit of a fun read, and believe me, we'll all need a bit of fun when the going gets bad.

Good shoes for everyone, and socks, lots of socks. If your feet hurt, you get grouchy and you don't get a lot of work done, or travel very far.

God bless, and we'll see you on the other side.bump

buy a 12v UV light. You can use the light to purify water by shining the light at a clear plastic container of water for about 2-3 hours. Of course you'll need a source of 12v power. a minimum of 100-150 watt panel, AGM deep cycle battery, solar charge controller and inverter can be had for around $500-1,000.

a couple ounces of silver is good as well. You can use the 12v battery and two pieces of silver to make a silver colloidal solution which is a natural anti-bacterial.

One year of regular grocery store foods you eat every day.

3 years of long term storage (LTS)foods. Rice, wheat, sugar, corn (corn meal will last 5 years), salt (many pounds) regular and canning salt, flour (this will last 10 years), black pepper, beef and chicken bullion, vanilla extract, garlic and onion powder, pasta, dried beans (pinto, red, white, black, etc).

Get recipes that you can use to make tasty meals out of your preps.

1-2 months of water with a means to collect more and purify it. Get pool shock that has no fungicides in it. It is powder and lasts forever. You make your own bleach with it. Get a kiddie pool to collect rain water. Get a water filter to filter with lots of extra cartridges. Without water, you are dead in a few days.

SEEDS!!!! Get regular seeds for planting now and heirlooms for planting later. Learn how to save seeds so you will have a crop the following year. Seeds will be a big barter item.

You need 1k ammo to defend you and yours. Guns will only last as long as you have ammo. You need back up protection - bow and arrow is a good one. You can make your own arrows. Crossbow, you can make your own bolts.

Go online, find how-to's and print them up! Buy DIY books. Learn everything you possibly can right this moment to live in a world filled with chaos in a setting during the 1800's. Learn how to live off the land like they did in the 1600's and then you will have it made.

Make a bug out bag for each member of your family/group.

You don't need the latest and best. You can buy a lot to prepare without spending a fortune. #1 FOOD #2 WATER
