Re: The Internet Could Crash - WE NEED A BACKUP PLAN
OK... I've been thinking and I don't know where to pitch these ideas, in order to elaborate. Perhaps someone here will know where I can go, or will have input themselves.

I was thinking about the various ways of connecting and transferring packets back and forth. I was thinking back to my 36.6K modem, with the best setup (incl acceleration) I was transferring about 10KBps.
Then I thought about a fun experiment I put to play as a child: One 9v battery and a resistor kept the line between two phones alive. It's not enough juice to make the phone ring but voice travels fine. Supposedly it works over quite some distance.

What I want to know is if there can be two modems transferring data over this kind of 9v, direct line.

Anyone have any ideas? Know where to find some?

It is possible to make a "separate" internet with amateur radios. I've heard it somewhere. Basically it is to use the amateur radio communication to "talk" with modems/switches and all these stuff. It is painfully slow, but it works.
 Quoting: CripplingLies

First, it was packet radio with a single MO-dulator DEM-modulator= Modem one way (you had to stfu to listen
and next you transmit) and it had error correction.

Next they invented the two way Modem who could work in
parallel (receiving and transmiting the same time) so it
could work on ground telephone lines band voila...
the first BBs es was born and next Internet

Without Amateur Radio there would not be Internet

you dont need to invent something who already exists

you just need to accept low speeds, 300bps for HF worldwide
and 1200 or 9600 for VHF-UHF Local contacts

But accepting the low speeds, you take a real time Free Digi
tal radio communication, TEXT, with local FREE BBS es and
worldwide contacts 24/7 from your antenna straight to the
other antenna PC to PC, no providers

ofcourse you can send files also, but it takes his time:)

 Quoting: Perseus -

This is why the term ETHERnet is used.
The original data networking using radio was ALOHAnet

"ALOHAnet, also known as the ALOHA System, or simply ALOHA, was a pioneering computer networking system developed at the University of Hawaii. ALOHAnet became operational in June, 1971, providing the first public demonstration of a wireless packet data network."

Robert Metcalfe used this as a model to create Ethernet at Xerox Parc. He then went onto found the company 3COM.

Re: The Internet Could Crash - WE NEED A BACKUP PLAN
The Internet can´t crash it´s made off an military defence communication network.

It virtually is indestructable it is coded this way.

Each packet send hast to be verified, if it is not recived it is resend, if it doesnt reach it´s destination, it is rerouted, until it reaches it´s target IP.
Only for TCP but not normal UDP packets. Even then the packet is only routed until the TTL reaches 0

What can happen is that we cant accesss the data anymore.

Cause we are Lazy, somebody introduced DNS (Dynamiy name services) wich made every IP assign an real life name like.

Hosts files were used originally, but they were becoming too difficult to update and so DNS was developed

www.icrashthenet.de, now lets say my fictive dns has an ip of 192.1.1.1

Wich cant be cause 192/Ips are only used in intranets most of you would know it from your router, as example.

BBN Communications own the public address 192.1.1.1

Private C class addresses are 192.168.XXX.XXX

Well now an evil hacker infests an dns server with a new IP like 192.1.1.2.

Now www.icrashthenet.de can have diffrent contend cause it´s rerouted to the other ip and the PC at the new ip servers a new websited.

So basically what you have to do is you have to know your trusted sites have a fixed IP.

And then you have to find out that IP of the trusted sites.

You can do that by useing your comman shell and typeing "netstat".

If you want to find out the ip address of a website, the correct way is to find the ip address is to open a command prompt and run

nslookup www . godlikeproductions . com

and this will return the ip address from your current DNS server.

I´m allmost sure atm the ip of thissite is 217.89.105.169

i just guessed it from one netstat so far.

But you can do that with every of your favorite sites servers etc.

If you cant reach your favorite pron site with the URL(the real link name) like my.favpron.net, you still may be able to see it with the IP address.

This can cause problems as the same IP address can host multiple websites, from the IP address you will only sse the default website.
The correct way is to add the website into your hosts file along with the url

eg

192.31.187.75 www . godlikeproductions . com

One can taint the DNS servers, but they cant bring the net down lists of IP adresses will probably spread across the net in hours with infos to viabale news.

Lol well so if the shtf keep the IP of GLP.

Until the site owner changes IP address and does not notify anyone beforehand.
Which happened recently

I say we do both.

Today, the controlled internet is working for you...

But I do so hope you consider the alternatives...

 Quoting: Mister Obvious

I believe that we may be training ourselves to be empathic/telepathic through the use of the Internet, particularly GLP and other forums.

As major events happen and large numbers of people experience very similar physical sensations(i.e. feelings/emotions) I believe a resonant effect takes place which causes it's own felt sensation, the sensation of being in resonance with a larger group.

So you are feeling whatever feeling the event evokes in you, but you are also feeling a sensation of being in synch with the group. The "group mind" sensation is very pleasurable, which can cause cognitive dissonance when the emotions that pulled the group mind together were negative.

I think 9/11 is a good example of this. For a short time, perhaps the largest number of people ever were feeling nearly the same emotions simultaneously. I know I was in a state of shock/fear/sorrow/disbelief. There was something else though too. At the time I just told myself that it felt good to at least know that I wasn't alone in that feeling. So we became glued to the media. It helped us maintain that wave of connection for a long time. We couldn't seem to turn away. We didn't want to, like a new junky.

Now we experience this in much subtler less powerful ways, but we still experience it. Like any junky, we're always trying to experience that first high again, but nothing ever is quite like the first. Which may be why after you live through following a "flap" on GLP live, your hooked. You are gonna want more of that.

So maybe if we paid more attention to that sensation we could perhaps establish it at will, and perhaps make it able to convey more complex info. Perhaps GLP is the perfect tool for such a practice.

Internet will only crash when the power grid is fried as well such as in the event of a solar kill shot or some super duper EMP strike.
