Sure but the problem is, the public aren't being given these solutions...

They're seized and kept secret.

And BTW...

It is a natural function of most creatures on this planet to communicate 'psychically' with the environment around them... it's simple.

Re: The Internet Could Crash - WE NEED A BACKUP PLAN
The reality is if we lose 'instant contact' with one-another then we have no real way to warn, or cooperate with others due to the impending threat, perhaps related to the fall of the net.

Wifi and bluetooth are a great way to rig up networking, locally. Using radio like CB or HAM we can transmit data packets in a way akin to dial-up. We could use this method to link the networks, if there was a coordinated effort. I rather enjoy simple command line interactions. It feels more personal for some reason. Hehehe, and it's great for the Matrix fan in all of us. I'm currently working on getting a BBS type system running on my android phone and I can broadcast a wifi AP for a decent distance. Perhaps this method could be used.

If the net is down because of electricity issues then it's a whole other ballgame, however.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36440313

Yes, this is an excellent post with great points...

But I am not really concerned with global comms as a means of 'warning people' or 'doom' or any such thing...

The knowledge of these things is only a side effect of the original aspect... GLOBAL COMMUNICATION UNINHIBITED.
 Quoting: Mister Obvious

Quite agreed. It's just that I see those unmentioned events as a reality in the event of the net 'crashing.' I see a real threat to free survival. I'm mainly thinking about the soon after. I couldn't agree more that a priority of rebuilding society would be comms.
If it's an EMP type scenario, let's hope there are more folks with faraday boxes, storing radio equipment.

Now...

Can you link me to a device solely for the purpose of written comms that is not powered in any capacity by 'the grid', but is independent of any known 'Control', and runs off natural elements that cannot be 'controlled' as we know it?

Cuz that's what I super really want.

And I've been told 'we' are the communicative devices, people.

So I guess it's your choice...

Do you want to use a device to communicate with one another globally, or do you want to do it naturally?

1dunno1

I say we do both.

Today, the controlled internet is working for you...

But I do so hope you consider the alternatives...

I'm with Danny Hillis a million percent.

He remembers the days when the internet was pure and all about communication, simply put.

He registered the third ever domain name.

THIS MAN GETS IT.

He gets it.

I have been talking about this for a while...

Everyone seems to think it's so impossible.

Well ALL OF OUR ENERGY problems would have been completely UNHEARD OF today if Tesla's technology would have been allowed by TPTB.

Not to mention all of our communication problems...

There'd be no need for those stupid fucking wires under the ocean to connect us all through the 'grid'.

When are you people going to fucking understand.

We're all brother and sister cuz there's no war, cuz let's face it before the internet there was no war, RIGHT?!?!?

More like we accept that now WE HAVE KNOWN COMMUNICATION WITH THE GLOBE. WE HAVE COMMUNICATED, GLOBALLY. WE HAVE CONNECTED TO ONE ANOTHER... GLOBALLY.

And we love it.

We won't turn our backs again, because this time, SOMETHING HAPPENED - global communication.

Keep some modem!
Some modern analog equipment, if theres still wires.
A dial-in pad and some multiplexers.

Otherwise some GPRS, UMTS, HSPA, EVDO, WiMax equipment to build your own local mesh networks.

I used dial-up billboards a lot before.

Internet using carrier pigeons:

Status of this Memo

This memo describes an experimental method for the encapsulation of
IP datagrams in avian carriers. This specification is primarily
useful in Metropolitan Area Networks. This is an experimental, not
recommended standard. Distribution of this memo is unlimited.

Overview and Rational

Avian carriers can provide high delay, low throughput, and low
altitude service. The connection topology is limited to a single
point-to-point path for each carrier, used with standard carriers,
but many carriers can be used without significant interference with
each other, outside of early spring. This is because of the 3D ether
space available to the carriers, in contrast to the 1D ether used by
IEEE802.3. The carriers have an intrinsic collision avoidance
system, which increases availability. Unlike some network
technologies, such as packet radio, communication is not limited to
line-of-sight distance. Connection oriented service is available in
some cities, usually based upon a central hub topology.

Re: The Internet Could Crash - WE NEED A BACKUP PLAN
If the Internet were to cease functioning today, the effect would be similar for many people. They grew up with ubiquitous communication, information at their fingertips and shopping at the click of a mouse. They'd be lost without e-mail and social networking sites (though I'm told instant messaging is so last week). And many of their businesses, online like their lives, would also come to a crashing halt. Customer lists consisting solely of e-mail addresses are singularly useless without e-mail, and online brochures and catalogs are simply computer wallpaper without the wherewithal to allow potential customers to browse them. And for software developers and others who rely on customer downloads and online credit card payments, the business world would come to an end until they completely rebuilt their business model.
