If the internet 'crashes' as you say, the ONLY way that could happen is a natural disaster large enough to wipe out all the computer networks connected together by these larger networks (in which case it really doesn't matter), or some weird ass thing our solar system does to us and fucks up how electricity works, or most likely, TPTB will take it down intentionally, but then blame it on something else. And then of course come up with a solution. As to the idea of staying in contact with all these faceless people that everyone here has become accustomed to... well in absence of internet, you better go meet your neighbors and plan your survival locally. |

We could use this method to link the networks, if there was a coordinated effort. I rather enjoy simple command line interactions. It feels more personal for some reason. Hehehe, and it's great for the Matrix fan in all of us. I'm currently working on getting a BBS type system running on my android phone and I can broadcast a wifi AP for a decent distance. Perhaps this method could be used. If the net is down because of electricity issues then it's a whole other ballgame, however. |

Most people aware of what is going on have already planned for these options. With HAM radios, 100watts of power (a light bulb), TNC and a little knowledge you can easily communicate with anyone around the world using voice or data packets There are even free satellites in orbit that you can bounce voice and data off of using HAM gear. ISS has relay and HAM comm gear open for public use +1 for HAM Radio communication, packet in VHF for local, and all the various digital modes for HF for Global comms, even good old CW (Morse Code) at high speed works pretty well.
