BBS won't work as most telcos have converted their networks to VOIP with only the last bit of the connection running off a phone line.

But what about transmitting over the power cables, they run everywhere.

If everyone on Earth today had a 1Kw AM radio transmitter, using frequencies form 400Khz to 100Ghz.. well, some say there would be massive chaos.. so the frequency ranges are held for wifi to be in a 2.4Ghz band and a second 5.4 Ghz band..
