But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. We read here in these verses seven reasons why the resurrection of Christ is so vital to true Christianity. God makes it clear that if the dead do not rise from the grave, then: 1. "Christ Himself is not risen!" 2. "our preaching of it is empty, and your faith is also empty!" 3. "we are found as false witnesses of God, because we have testified that God has raised up Christ from the dead!" 4. "our faith is futile if this is not true!" 5. "We are still in our sins if this is not true!" 6. "Those who have fallen asleep [died] in Christ, have perished!" 7. "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable!" Without Christ's resurrection, and our own resurrection from the dead in Him, the entire New Testament is without confirmation or validation. Hebrews 9:17 "For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth". Christ had to die in order to Confirm or strengthen the Testament with many. Jesus told his Disciples that he was going to die and that he would be resurrected. If only part of this was true (that is, his death), then the faith of every Christian is in vain because Jesus did not tell the truth. That cannot be! His Words are the Word of God and absolutely true and trustworthy! If not, then how are we made righteous by Him? All these things hinge on Christ's death and Resurrection. Jesus promised that those who believed in Him would never die, but have eternal life (-John 3:16). And so if Jesus did not rise from the dead, how then can we believe the promise of eternal life? If Jesus rose not, then what about the testimony? There are only three possible answers. 1. The Apostles lied about it! 2. The apostles were fooled! Or, 3. The Apostles told the Truth! First of all, the integrity of the Apostles is self evident, they did not lie! Second, they could not have been fooled, as their testimony is that they themselves saw Him, and talked with Him. Third, more than that, there were many witnesses (including Paul) to the risen Christ as Jesus appeared not only to all of the Apostles a number of times, but also to many others. 1st Corinthians 15:4-8 "And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time." And so it's clear that the Apostles truly saw Him and talked with Him. And like Christ, the Apostles were hated and reviled and persecuted, and indeed killed for their belief in Jesus. Do you think that men perpetrating a silly fraud would continue to suffer and give their very lives for a lie, or for a resurrection which they were unsure of? It is ridiculous to think so! The very Church began because Jesus's Apostles believed that after his death, he rose from the dead. It is the main point of the gospel preaching. Without Christ's resurrection, all that the Church has to stand upon is a dead man, not a living Saviour! But Praise God, Christ is Risen, and the importance of that resurrection is in us, who have been risen with Him. Most people who believe in resurrection have no idea what this concept entails. It is in fact the product of Jewish Messianic theory which says that a Jewish priest-king will one day establish an earthly paradise and all the righteous Jews who died before the establishment of "the Kingdom" will be raised from the dead to enjoy the rewards of remaining faithful to Jehovah. Since they are coming back to this earth, they need their body back i.e. they need to undergo bodily resurrection. The problem with the Messianic theory of the soul is that it is incompatible with the God theory of the soul that talks of an immaterial heaven and immaterial soul. What possible meaning could physical resurrection have in a non-physical afterlife? The Jehovah's Witnesses claim that 144,000 souls will enjoy an immaterial existence in heaven with God, while the rest of the Jehovah's Witnesses will have to settle for a material terrestrial paradise. This reveals the extent to which radically different views of the soul have been combined in crazy combinations. The Jehovah's Witnesses also claim that all non Witnesses will be annihilated. How is it possible for an immortal soul to cease to exist? Theologically, Christianity is comical. The myriad errors are simply ignored. No Christian cares about the truth content of what they believe. Christians have no relationship whatever with the truth. Ponder the science of divine conception. How does the process work scientifically? Could you write 1,000 words on the subject? If you can't, of what value is your Christian faith? |

Is the human nature of Jesus Christ now part of the Trinity? If not, where did it go? Was Jesus Christ simply a super-angel? If he was "begotten" of God then he can't BE God since there must have been a time before he was begat when he didn't exist. A non-existent God is an impossibility therefore the Son of God can't be God. This is the basis of the famous Arian heresy, which came perilously close to becoming Christian orthodoxy. Who is Jesus Christ's father? Shouldn't it be God the Son since God the Son and Jesus Christ (the Son of God) are supposedly one and the same being? Yet the "infallible" scriptures clearly identify the Holy Spirit, not God the Son, as Jesus' father. He has the WRONG father. Christianity should, logically, be all about the HOLY SPIRIT since he provides Jesus' divine element. Christianity couldn't even rationally work out who Jesus' father must be for it to make sense. |
