Shouldn't we be optimistic in the face of such a threat? Not that I believe this is a threat whatsoever. It's clear (to me) from what was quoted, that NASA is trying to raise their budget, which they should have been interested in during the previous administrations.. |

AND The "Angel of Death" in the story of Moses... Passover.... I the story of Moses, the Israelits were ordered to stay in their homes... Place a symbol with lambs blood on their door... Eat bitter herbs... Hunker down and Pray... Thats right, Pray for the Angel of Death to Pass Over. Now... In a natural disaster, or one where an object may strike the earth. What would you be expected to do? Stay in your homes... Eat survival food...(bitter herbs) Hunker down, and Pray... After the disaster... [Houses will be searched for survivors, and a Mark will be placed on the door of the home indicating survivors, or bodies to be excavated.] Place a symbol on your door... Passover, is Passover for a reason, and we have 4 GREAT Comets flying through our sky this year? Pray. |

Halcyon Dayz, FCD User ID: 31033756 Netherlands 03/20/2013 10:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Dear sweet Jesus you people are stupid. The report is about the woeful ability that we have to predict events like this. No country's space program has the budget to watch the entire sky for things like this, and we could get as little as 3 weeks advanced warning because of our inadequate monitoring technology. In addition, there's no contingency plan for something like this happening, so they are saying, essentially, if we get warning 3 weeks or so in advance, it doesn't really matter, as there's nothing we're going to be able to do about it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1585210 No one warned Russia of that asteroid. I don't expect we'll get any advanced notice of future ones either. We were notified in the past. Minor Planet Electronic Circular issued at 2008 Oct 06 14:59 UTC: "The nominal orbit given above has 2008 TC3 coming to within one earth radius around Oct. 7.1. The absolute magnitude indicates that the object will not survive passage through the atmosphere. Steve Chesley (JPL) reports that atmospheric entry will occur on 2008 Oct 07 0246 UTC over northern Sudan." [link to en.wikipedia.org] 12 hours warning is still better than nothing. It had only been discovered 20 hours before impact. Reaching for the sky makes you taller. Hi! My name is Halcyon Dayz and I'm addicted to morans. |

He's their spokesperson to calm things down, I guess (nasa's or the gov's), but his body language and eyes speak volumes. Also, the question of why the billionaires are so interested and congress is so interested, is because they know the threat is real. There is this one billionaire that has built a space station, and this was aired on Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theory a couple of years back. Some of these billionaires want to get off planet, because they know what is coming. It did not categorically state that there is indeed an incoming asteroid in three weeks time. Don't forget to read the first part of that statement... "From the information we have, we don't know of an asteroid that will threaten the population of the United States," Based on the information that they have, no asteroid will be a threat to the US, but they are just basing that on what they know and as what happened in Russia, they cannot monitor every asteroid that may be heading towards earth. Doom is still out there, but it doesn't necessarily mean it is coming in three weeks time. Chill. |
