How smart are you? | |
Damrod User ID: 6266696 United States 03/20/2013 11:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's interesting how 50% of the responses claimed to be smarter than 90% of the population. If you clicked that, maybe you should re-evaluate your choice. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17049908 LMAO! Yeah I clicked 80% based on the people I personally know around me...but not compared to the "big picture". I guess in that frame of thought I'd prob be in the 60 or 70% range. Not going to sell myself short. I can be pretty clever and I am a good problem solver. I also understand how IQ tests work and a ton of it is based on the ability to spot patterns...that in and of itself is a skill...does not necessarily establish creative thought and inventiveness. The IQ tests are broken. They really need to be revised and how they are interpreted and valued revised. They were created in a time to prop up or solidify certain racial and socioeconomic prejudice....fact. People's "intelligence" should be measured on what they can contribute. I have known some folks that would have been considered dumb as a stump come up with some great ideas to solve a problem...it is all relative. The problem is, the current measuring system is biased. Not many people are "Renaissance thinkers" anymore. Quoting: Damrod It takes a special mind to be able to recall history, science, advanced mathematics, etc. I know engineers that are brilliant in "THAT" specific discipline and are dumb as a bag of hammers in say history or archaeology. I strive to be a "Renaissance man". I try to be creative, artful, critical and spiritual. I try to solve problems I face both inside and outside the box. I had my IQ tested many years ago and I have learned a ton since then...but overall, I would prob rate about the same. I am NOT a super genius...just a dude trying to make it through this life as best I can. After reading that post you can also add 'cliche specialist' to your list of abilities :-) |

I really don't see myself as being super extraordinary...but I do realize I have some talent. How am I a "Cliche" specialist" if I am capable of recognizing my own limitations in the intellectual field? I can do other things that I hope adds to my ability to be an individual. I am not pompous or 'cliche" in my opinion...I like to think I am a realist. |
Sir France's Beercan User ID: 1245590 Austria 03/20/2013 11:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is interesting to note that everyone rates themselves as brighter than those around them. One's perception of other peoples' intelligence will always be limited by your own so will result in a self fulfilling inference that one is cleverer than those around them. The only real test is when people you know well tell you you're a lucky bastard for being so clever. Other than that, one's perception of one's own intelligence is inevitably limited to your own level of stupidity and dare I say it, many on this thread fall into that category. |

And the list goes on but I have to work now! |

Let's first get out of the way that knowing more about conspiracy theories does not equal being smarter. Although, there have been a time when I did think that (not unlike many others I suspect), and would most likely have hit the 90% as well. Having said that. I always had an edge over the people I grew up with but since, I have met many people with more life experience, knowledge, and have at least my IQ. It was a sobering but a most valuable experience when I started hanging out with different crowds. And also here I suspect that the people who ranked themselves in the upper 80 or 90% should try hanging out with different crowds. |

Quoting: Esoteric Morgan Well, upon seeing your thread title, I figured I was not going to be so presumptuous as to rank myself 'according' to my own perceptions of myself'; then I read the body of your comment: "Think about 100 people in your life. Parents, friends, co-workers, extended family, teachers, stc. Rank yourself" It has to be 90%. I do not know ONE person who makes any effort to find out the why's and how's of the world and systems they 'live' in. Everyone I know seems to 'just be' content with going about their own business. A surprising number of them NEVER read newspapers, or even watch news broadcasts, of any kind. "What do you mean 'stop eating seafood?' Fukushima? What's that? Corexit? What?" "GMO's?" "You better stop going to that website. Everyone KNOWS that flouride is essential to good dental health! Oh, man!" "Where do you get this stuff? The BIBLE specifically states that..." "Sigh Op? Wha?" These are just milder examples. Those that DO have some interest in "being well informed" tend to start bitching and moaning when the news outlets they watch tell them it's time to bitch and moan. It is akin to a 'pavlov's dog' response. They listen = they believe. They would NEVER consider trying to research the possibility that what they are hearing could be some degree of propaganda, or, guided acceptance. This goes for ANY and ALL news outlets. There's no thought to 'read between the lines.' No effort to dig deeper. ==== So, based upon your parameters...at least 90% GLP rules!!! p.s.: I'm having trouble posting at the moment. site access problems again! If you dismiss people because they believe the Bible you have just failed at life. I hope you rated your self sufficiently low on the poll, honey. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 36185957 United States 03/20/2013 12:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I chose 70%, but I'm not really sure that I'm actually smarter than 70% of the population of Earth. I am confident, however, that I think differently than 90% of the people on Earth, and certainly than 90% of people here in the good ol' USA. Heck, I often feel like I think in a completely different way than most of the people here. |
