World famous poker player arrested in prostitution sting... who does prostitution hurt anyway??
[link to abclocal.go.com]

I think it's so shameful that this atrocity is now attached to Mr. Greg Raymer's reputation for life. A misdemeanor; a harmless, victimless crime.

Who does prostitution hurt?

After some research, I found a woman who had this to say:
Melissa Farley, PhD of Prostitution Research & Education, argues that prostitution is hardly a victimless crime. In her "Prostitution: Fact sheet on Human Rights Violations" Farley says that prostitution is sexual harassment, rape, battering, verbal abuse, domestic violence, a racist practice, a violation of human rights, childhood sexual abuse, a consequence of male domination of women and a means of maintaining male domination of women.

Sexual harassment? The woman consented.
Rape? The woman consented. Make it legal, then she can make police reports if the man becomes overly-aggressive.
Battering? The woman consented.
Verbal abuse? Hardly a crime in anyway. Words are just words.
Domestic violence? Oh, this only happens during prostitution?
Racist practice? Wow, really? The only racist is you, Ms. Farley. Only you would reach that far as to pay acknowledgement towards the races of the people involved.
A violation of human rights? THE DAMN WOMAN CONSENTED. SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE'S GETTING HERSELF INTO. AND IF SHE DOESN'T, SHE'LL GROW UP TO BE A PIECE OF SHIT ANYWAY, WHO CARES?? It's not your life.
Childhood sexual abuse? What does money have to do with this? Prostitution is different from sex simply because money is involved. If its statutory rape, then its a different story. Whether or not money was involved is irrelevant.
A consequence of male domination of women and a means of maintaining male domination of women? Tell you what women, we'll dominate you as a gender, and in return, if a cruise ship is ever sinking, you and the children will be rescued first. Oh wait, that already is happening. By the way, this is Ms. Farley's response to general prostitution. She was not asked about FEMALE PROSTITUTION. She, herself, decided to dominate males over females by only paying acknowledgement towards to males who take advantage of women.

It just makes me sick that this harmless crime has extremely hindered this nice guy's reputation.

I play poker for a living. 75% of the people who succeed in it aren't even known; to say they are "star struck" is a very ignorant comment.

I am a poker player too, never managed to win more than I loose though.

Need I elaborate further?

It depends the kind of prostitution...
Some prostitutes are indeed totally consent and have chosen to be prostitute.
But others are not consent and victims of modern slavery from networks (african network, east european network...).

He didn't try to "buy a woman". You're making it sound like slavery. The woman offered sex for money, he accepted, and got busted. I think this is wrong.

Yes, you need to elaborate further. He probably does lack in social skill, and yes I do as well. If it makes you feel better to criticize me for having social anxiety, then so be it.

However, I still see nothing wrong with common prostitution. It would be awesome if you could actually justify yourself with logic instead of criticism.

Regardless if it's moral or not, it's embarrassing... The news is basically saying "Hey see this guy? He can't get girls on his own so he has to pay them. Now someone go put it on his wiki page so it can be remembered forever."

It's now attached to his reputation because society has MADE it something shameful. So I believe the word "expose" is the correct one.

I don't think it's perfectly moral (Thanks for putting words in my mouth btw), I simply think it is a victimless crime, and that the whole world doesn't need to know about it.

prostitution hurts in the very same way that people are prostituted for money. Ie that they are slaves to money, and think that money buys love.

Ugly fat dudes need love too.
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

Who cares if he paid a prostitute. Millions of men spend thousands of dollars on their girlfriends and wives each year with the sole purpose on some purchases that it will get them laid.

At least hookers are up-front with their business intentions and make it easy by just doing a cash transaction.

For a guy like Raymer, it's probably much easier to just pay for it than get on the dating scene, etc.

If people were not forcing some women into prostitution, they would be killing them and selling their organs.

Or selling them for slaves (which is still happening, and sometimes voluntarily).

It should be legal. Two consenting adults, behind closed doors. Who outside knows what happens or why is it their business? I'm totally Libertarian on this issue. As long as no one is being unwillingly hurt, it isn't my concern nor that of the police. I just think it should be kept totally discreet by the parties involved and out of the sight of others.

Stop with the meme that prostitutes are for "fat ugly guys who can't get laid"

Men with a lot of success, status and money go to prostitutes because they can afford to indulge.

Is Charlie Sheen a fat ugly guy who can't get laid?

How about Sting? (seen coming out of a German brothel a few years ago)

How about Bill Clinton? (item on a gossip page from a Nevada madam said he was a regular customer)

and on and on.
