In 2008, DHS employed about 55,000 weapons authorized law enforcement officers:

"At the Cabinet department level, component agencies of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, employed about 55,000 officers or 46% of all as of with arrest and firearms authority in 2008. Agencies of the Department of Justice (DOJ) employed 33.1% of all officers, followed by other executive branch agencies (12.3%), the judicial branch (4.0%), the independent agencies (3.6%) and the legislative branch (1.5%)."

That was in 2008 when DHS employed a total of about 190,000 employees. P. 118 [link to www.dhs.gov] They now have 230,000 employees, so probably 60,000 DHS armed employees today .

A search on the number of weapons, reveals that information is classified :

"2 We did not include the number of firearms in TSA’s inventory because this information is protected as Sensitive Security Information under 49 CFR 1520.5(b)(8) (ii). We also did not list the total number of firearms in DHS’ inventory to protect TSA’s Sensitive Security Information. "

The USMC is close in size (202,000) to the DHS (although most USMC personnel fire weapons).

The Marine Corps shoots over 70 million rounds of M16 ball in training annually (their primary weapon ammunition).

In addition the USMC is currently fighting a war and must train for maximum combat effectiveness which means a lot of training ammunition is used at present.

DHS uses 15 million rounds for training annually

"Training requires the use of approximately 15 million rounds of ammunition annually."

15 million goes into 1.6 billion 100 plus times.

The DHS math on the training excuse does not add up.

I was told these petitions have to be addressed after they reach so many signers BUT I think this is BS since I remember most of the states receding from the union and don't remember that being addressed.

petitions do nothing. even if you got the required number of votes they always give some bs excuse like why dont you ask dhs or we cant give you intel on national security. strength in numbers is what will change things.
