Because of Obama care this trend will eventually extend everywhere. Trust me... You will be losing money all over the place over this crap both directly and indirectly.

For workers at CVS, body fat can be costly
The company will penalize employees $600 a year if they don't take part in its 'voluntary' wellness program.

Having to disclose your weight and body fat levels just to get that gig is another story.

The Boston Herald disclosed CVS' new health screening policy Tuesday and revealed that workers who fail to comply would face $50-a-month surcharge. That $600-a-year penalty somewhat undermines CVS' suggestion that the new policy is "voluntary," but it's an increasingly common move by companies looking to save money by avoiding employees with costly health conditions.

Corporate-speak.

Here's the deal:

Assuming you're an Employee at Will, which the vast majority of American workers are, CVS is within it's rights to make all kinds of demands, including this. They after-all are subsidizing employee healthcare premiums and healthcare costs are through the roof in America, have been for a long time.

Now matters may be different for those with negotiated union contracts, private and public sector, and for the small percentage of workers in professions where they have negotiated employer/employee contracts.

Don't work at CVS.

It's not like they pay very well anyway. Plenty of jobs around any CVS looking to pay you low wages.

Something has to give. Healthcare costs in America are incredibly high, far above the official inflation rate. Two options are available:

1) Since the government subsidizes healthcare, it has a right to keep costs down in a variety of ways, maybe even including price controls.

2) No insurance period, for anybody. Neither public nor private. VERY few people would be able to afford going to a doctor, prescription drugs, etc., under such conditions, costs would have to come down.

A big part of the out of control costs does actually have to do with the massive amount of government spending on healthcare from Medicaid to Medicare and everything in between.

Same thing applies to the higher education industry and the housing industry. Both are HEAVILY subsidized in one fashion of another by the government. This is the #1 reason why their costs, like healthcare, are so out of control.

Yep...something will give.....the USA economically with ObamaCare in place. grnrolleyes

You will not escape it.

All that really has to be done / created was COMPETITION ACROSS STATE LINES....like Geico, Allstate, Progressive, Farmers.....etc.
...and tort reform to deal with the excessive lawsuits.

That alone would have driven down costs SUBSTANTIALLY as it has for the other insurance industries.

...but NO....instead we get this BEHEMOTH TRILLION DOLLAR PLUS MONSTROSITY that is an economy and healthcare killer... called ObamaCare.

...and they had to LIE CHEAT AND STEAL to get it passed.

Gawker decided to fill out an application for a job at Twice Daily convenience stores. It was subjected not only to questions about long hours, lengthy commutes, driving violations and drug tests, but also a "Hiring Assessment" that asked how much it agreed with the following statements, among others:

At work, I often procrastinate.
Most modern art is not really art.
I always complete a job, no matter what else is happening around me.
Variety is the spice of life.
I worry a lot about my job.
I never run out of energy.

----They have been doing this for years. I remember blockbuster had you take one.

If people were to just stop working those jobs - they would go away with all this. They would probably beg you to come work for them.

Look at all that you have to go through to work a job that pays what ... 7.50 - 8.50 an hour?

I don't know.

Maybe I just don't get it or I'm not educated enough to understand why in any community healthcare and the well being for others should cost anything or should be priced.

Why do hospitals need to make money? Isn't an educated, healthy, populace beneficial to everyone?

Yeah, switch from a Capitalist society to a Free Enterprise society.

Anyways if you think the U.S. is a "capitalist" country anymore then you are a fool. There is no Constitution anymore. The U.S. is a fascist corporation society.

They have declared war on the middle class and will bankrupt them in a few years. They know the middle class cannot afford much more of their theft and so they push and push more of their crap until the middle class is just a memory.

Can somebody explain to me why this is a bad thing? Its a private corporation taking steps to weed out obese employees. If I were an employer, I would not hire somebody who was obese, and if an employee did become obese I would like to be able to reserve the right to give them an ultimatum: lose weight or lose your job. Obesity is a drain on productivity.

Two-thirds of Americans are obese or overweight.

That costs money. A lot of money in related illnesses. If more companies had that sort of policy - health costs would come down.

I don't have a problem with a company trying to curb their costs. I do, however, see the irony in a pill-pushing company, such as CVS, setting the trend.
