The way it was explained to me was it is a sort of a repercussion ejector from impact as the moons crust is very thin, this is exaggerated by the low gravity and lack of erosion. My two cents. The one on the left appears to cast the longer shadow. Quoting: Luke Skywatcher Central peaks are a normal part of crater formation--nothing strange about them. In fact, my local s ken e museum has an experiment that lets you shoot a pinball into a small sandbox at different angles to see what happens... Guess what! Circular craters with central peaks apresult with almost any impact angle. |
