My family has been drug out on this forever. Thought this might be a silver lining too:
On thursday I think it was the FCC settled with Chase to pay out 14 million to homeowners that had force placed insurance through Assurant. We had it force placed three times. I have googled this all day, and really, money isn't even close to what I think Justice would be, but maybe it will ease the suffering.
My ma n pa were forced out of their home right at Christmas in 2011, and now live with myself and my husband. I personally have been crazed with stressed, and my parents are at the bottom of the barrel. They need a little hope, a small light at the end of this crappy dark tunnel. We'll see. I wish everyone luck, and keep hopeful.

FYI:

One of the FAQ's (?) or questions posed at the Inspector General's link that OP first posted asked if there is any hope that people forced out of their homes through foreclosure might GET THEM BACK.

The answer was something like: we'll see, or, maybe.

It might be a good idea for your parents to submit a brief query to them. They allow up to 2000 words when contacting them via their online contact section.

I wish you luck.

The only way that might happen would be if Fannie/Freddie or the servicers themselves still own them. If they've been sold to a new homeowner, it will never happen.
