I used to take prescription meds, but I got off them and will never go back. The natural remedy is the best remedy. I wouldn't worry about going longer than a month, lol. Tryptophans are an Essential Amino acid which is Metabolized into Melatonin by our Body. You can find foods that are high in this specific compound that your body will use to make into melatonin. Stuff like Turkey, eggs, milk ect. Lookup a foodlist for Tryptophans. |

Quoting: Irradiated Fish Dish 18234481 I tried it for a week or so. I did fall asleep easier but I still woke up in the middle of the night. I find that eating a little something before bed (warm milk, honey, ice cream, peanut butter) helps to keep me asleep and guards against the cortisol waking me up. |

For God's sake Brief, stop talking out of your ass. Melatonin is the ongoing metabolic product of seratonin, and increasing it will both increase seratonin, though competitive inhibition, and trigger better sleep in those with rotating shifts or other stresses on their diurnal rhythms. Obviously, know your substance before taking, and YMMV. It's a nutrient, and with FDA limiting access to tryptophan(essential AA), it helps us become more "normal". It's particularly valuable for older folks - someone you might eventually be if you're so lucky....... I've never tried really high doses, but the dream thing sounds like it'd be worth it. |

Once you hit your 60's and above, the level of endogenous melatonin drops to near zero. You probably won't need it for another 10 years, and then only a mg or so. After that, you need more. |

Makes sense...its like organs atrophying once a hormone replacement is given. But considering coffee negates and deactivates the pineal gland which is what make melatonin(spiritual awareness) I dont see much difference here. Recreational drugs cause the brain to release the neurotransmitter dopamine unnaturally...kinda like squeezing the juice out of a lemon. Dopamine is part of the reward system and is meant to be released naturally a pleasurable response to completing task you were driven to achieve. However this system has a feedback mechanism in place so that if you try to short circuit the process and get ends without the means the brain starts cutting you back releasing less and less thus and addict is born needing more and more to get "high". |
