Why would the doomsday have a 100 days delay on the December 21st 2012?
The Mayan doomsday, according the famous Tortuguero Monument, [link to en.wikipedia.org] is announced for the end of the 13th Baktun of the Long Count Calendar (13.0.0.0.0), corresponding to a 4 Ahau 3 Kankin of the Ritual Mayan Calendar. It matches with the correlation calculated by Goodman, Martinez, Thompson (GMT) between the Long Count Calendar [link to en.wikipedia.org] and our current Gregorian Calendar. This correlation is based on the equivalence November 2, 1539 = 11.16.0.0.0 and derived from the report of a tun ending by a Spanish and a Mayan source.

So it seemed legitimate to link the end of the Long Count Calendar with the December 21st 2012, on the base of that GMT correlation. But the correspondence between the Long Count Calendar and the Ritual calendar is based on a Haab (daily/civil) Calendar of 365 days (Vague Year) and that is incompatible with the amazingly precise measurement of time of the Mayas.

Basing on the three Mayan codices that the Spanish conquistadors didn't burn, it was clearly established that they have calculated the Year duration as precisely as 365,242 days, whereas our today scientific calculations give 365,24198 days. The Julian calendar's year was approximated to 365,25 days and was corrected to the current Gregorian calendar to 365,2425 in the 16th century, adding 10 extra-days to compensate the accumulated delay due to the imprecision of the Julian Calendar during 15 centuries.

We have adapted our calendar, because we found uncomfortable that our calendar was delayed of ten days on a period of 1500 years and our archeologists assumed that the Mayas would have let their daily calendar derive of 25 days per century without using any mechanism of correction, even though we know for sure that the Mayan priests were perfectly conscious of the exact duration of the year, because they couldn’t find any trace of those mechanisms of compensation.

But that it seems ridiculous to me to think that those mechanisms didn’t have existed, because we could't find them.

The Spanish conquistadors have killed all priests and burned all Mayan books, so the Mayas themselves have lost any trace of those mechanisms of correction of the Haab count. Though, the spanish bischop Diego de Landa was admirative of the perfection and precision of the Mayan calendar, mentionning that it had a year of 365 days and 6 hours. [link to www.onereed.com] But he reported also a year of 366 days every four years and that is rather uncompatible with the ritual calendar as we know it.

But those mechanisms of correction had to function on the basis of the Mayan calendar as we know it. They had to be simple, logical and effective.

An intercalary day every four year as for the Julian and Gregorian calendar is not possible, because it would disturb the sacred count of the ritual calendar of 52 years. The only solution is at my opinion an intercalary month of 25 days at the end of every Mayan century of 104 years (=two calendar rounds of 52 years), a repetition of the Kumku month (20 days) and of the Wayeb month (5 days) with a suspension of the long count during this period, in order not to disturb the correspondance between the Long Count and the Ritual Count. It would have added 25/104 days = .24038 to the count.

One more day added to the count causing a change of the year’s bearers every five century (Ekomal tun/prophetic calendar= 520 years) would still bring 1/520 day = .00192 day for a more precise correction would have given a year of 365 days + .24038 day + .00192 day = 365,2423 days. The current Year Bearer days are those of second group, whereas those of the Aztecs (somewhere between 1000-1500) were those of the third group and those of the post classic Mayas (somewhere between 500-1000) were those of the fourth group. So the change of the year bearers would be compatible with this fine correction mechanism.

The Mayan would have probably corrected the Haab Calendar one century in advance, in order to be just in time for end of the Venus Cycle, of the Ku tun and of the Great Cycle of 5125 years. So when the Spanish conquistador arrived in Yucatan in 1519, the Mayan priests had just corrected the Haab Calendar, at the end of the last Century and of the last Ekomal Tun (prophetic calendar) in 1492.

So the Haab year was in advance of just 25 days ahead of its original timing and ahead of the correspondence with the Long Count Calendar in 1492, when Christopher Columbus discovered America. The count was to zero and exact correspondence in 1597 at the end of the Mayan century, but the Mayan books have been burned and the Mayan priest assassinated. So the Haab calendar hasn’t been corrected this time and hasn’t yet no more.

Therefore, the Haab calendar was delayed of 25 days in 1701, of 50 days in 1805, of 75 days 1909 and of 100 days in 2012.

Finally the month of Kankin signifies orange smoking and is named after the burning of the maize corn field in mid April. So the original timing of the third day of Kankin would correspond to the first day of April or the last days of March.

So the real Mayan doomsdate or rather end of the fifth Sun period, the famous 13.0.0.0.0 and 4 Ahau 3 Kankin would in fact correspond to March 31st 2013, just 100 days after the December 21st 2012.

It corresponds to the end of a Venus cycle with a superior conjunction of Venus on March 28th. In fact there is a other conjunction with Uranus on the same day (rare). Mars and the almost full Moon will also be in near alignment. So it could as well match with the Hopi doomsday prophecy of several asters in a single raw.

But this is only speculation!

LOL and good Easter to all of you!
