Far more important than weapon selection, however, is an educated understanding of firearms and their operation, and most importantly, obtaining an obsessive intimacy with the Word of God rules of firearms safety. Then train, train, train. Don't be an idiot holding a gun. Be a weapon holding a tool. |

With the double barrel you have the advantage of two very sure, very potent shots. You have the disadvantage of only getting two shots. With the AR you have the advantage of sustained firepower and the disadvantage of overpenetration. I think about this a lot since I have a child and since I have neighbors. The AR can be a finicky gun, too (I've been around the block so don't tell me they are the most dependable rifle ever made because they absolutely are far from it, though I'm not suggesting they are junk). The failure to function rate of an AR must be hundreds of times higher than a double barrel. Personally, I keep a pump 12 ga next to my bed loaded with 2 3/4 inch 00 buck. I'd use #1 buck if I could find it since it would have less penetration, but still excellent effect at 5 yards. |

Because of the velocity the bullet shatters into pieces from the AR Pray for Us Sinners Now and at the Hour of our Death |

They want your shit and they may be willing to kill you for it,but they won't be willing to die for it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 23556561 United States 03/24/2013 03:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm not trying to shill against an AR. If I currently owned one I'd be perfectly happy to defend my home with it. Of course I'd be content with almost any handgun, shotgun, or carbine. I do agree that with the right bullet overpenetration need not be as serious, but it is still going to be a concern. A FMJ through my living room window still has plenty of energy to get through my neighbors vinyl siding, OSB, and sheetrock. |
