Re: "An event unprecedented in human history is today" - Methane gas at record highs
According to science, this planet has been around for 4 billion years. In that time, earth has experienced several climate shifts. Does it make the slightest sense at all that 150 years of oil and coal burning will end life on the planet as we know it? What utter horseshit. Just like gun regulation, it's another form of manipulation and control. Give up your freedoms for the greater good. Give up your right to self defense. Give up your right to move freely about in your own car. Ride an electric bus or a fucking bicycle. Well fuck that. These assholes can all go take a flying fucking dive into a ravine of rusty fence posts.

I'm sorry, but we are at peak CO2 and peak methane. 50M tons of methane have been released by the Eastern Ice Shelf ALONE. With this added methane, and the loss of the ice to cool the planet, you will have a runaway heat feedback loop.

The evidence is there (you can verify it with simple experiments). It does not matter whether you 'believe' or not. You can stand infront of a speeding train and 'believe' it wont kill you as much as like. Facts are facts.

We would be at peak methane when the atmosphere is no longer breathable. Change is happening true, but not quite to that extent.

Having lived through multiple human ending events I'm a bit skeptical. The Gulf spill was going to cause a huge die off, then Fukushima was going to kill millions, and now methane is the straw that breaks the camels back. I'm a little jaded when it comes to doom.

Most here do not really trust MSM too much.

For the sources presented, how do you know 100% that you can trust them?

I would like to trust someone fully.........but till then.....I would almost have to go to a place myself just to verify the truth.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35934137

You can trust these sources. Most of the links I posted were from scientists and people that have volunteered their life study to climate change, abrupt climate change and methane. I am friends with some of these scientists. I write for the SF Examiner, my last link is on the bottom of the original post. I make very little money writing about it, pennies a day, but it's something I'm passionate about. Paul Beckwith is the real deal, so are the other contributors at AMEG and the Arctic News Blogspot. I attended the AGU conference in Dec. in SF and overheard at the press conference from one of the NOAA heads that they are startled by how fast the Arctic ice is melting. This is real people and we are not making financial gain by bringing you this news. Our motives are pure and only to alert people to what's really going on. This latest video is from the NOAA of the Arctic cracking and it's happening now.

We don't stand anything to gain by fear-mongering. This is not some GLP conspiracy that "might happen". It's happening now in real-time. How long civilization has is anyones guess. I'd say we are entering into a period of abrupt climate change now (or possibly started recently)

I'm not a scientist, just a writer but I think we have reached the tipping point.

Remember those mammoths in Siberia frozen solid with food in their mouths? Seems like Long Cold Spells can come on in a hurry.

Many scientists still are convinced that the Sun cycles are, by far, the major generator of most warm spells.
In his book, "Between Two Ages," Brzezinski wrote: "The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values."

Yes abrupt climate change could happen within years, and paradoxically it could throw us into an Ice Age. There was a report from several years ago that was commissioned by the DOD about abrupt climate change.

It was some scary stuff. They knew years ago, and the DOD knows that climate change is the number #1 threat to national security. It's not terrorists we should fear, it's runaway climate change.

Methane is always being released, the problem will be the tons of methane (hydrates, clathrates) locked in permafrost that will thaw and then enter the atmosphere as Arctic ice continues to melt, leading to even faster warming.

Methane is 20 times more potent that carbon dioxide. Sources tell me that number is inaccurate and that methane gas is actually 100 plue times more powerful than carbon dioxide, that our numbers are off on that even.

A vicious cycle of warming has begun.

Things will change. Life will be affected.
It will straighten itself out, as always.
We may have challenges, may not die, may not suffer too much.
We may have to alter our lives.
Or, we may have major dangers and casualties.
But panic will not do us any good,
and seeing who is in charge of science institutions,
media, and gov;
panic decisions will most certainly do us harm.
IMO.

"Once methane was released at low latitudes from destabilization in front of ice sheets, warming caused other clathrates to destabilize because clathrates are held in a temperature-pressure balance of a few degrees," Kennedy said. "But not all the Earth's methane has been released as yet. These same methane clathrates are present today in the Arctic permafrost as well as below sea level at the continental margins of the ocean, and remain dormant until triggered by warming.
"This is a major concern because it's possible that only a little warming can unleash this trapped methane. Unzippering the methane reservoir could potentially warm the Earth tens of degrees, and the mechanism could be geologically very rapid. Such a violent, zipper-like opening of the clathrates could have triggered a catastrophic climate and biogeochemical reorganization of the ocean and atmosphere around 635 million years ago."

Considering that the nations on this planet, such as the U.S., Russia, and how many others? Have been playing around with our atmosphere for at least 50 or 60 years already... exploding high altitude nuke bomb tests, and working on HAARP et al, and the predecessors of that tech..., and God only knows what else that we haven't heard anything about yet,...I would guess that THEY have started this mess, and are now trying to pass the blame onto the average folks living in the industrialized world.

That makes it easy to pass carbon taxes and penalties to rake in some more loot to the bitter end. Greedy Bastages that they are.

However, the Bible does say that this current earth is destined to burn. Whereas it was cleansed by the Flood in the past, it will be cleansed by fire the next time around.

High levels of methane in the atmosphere could be the fuel to start that process....

Fearmongering sodomite. My model shows that 38% of SF is homosexual, since you work for a liberal paper, the model suggests a 94% probability you snarf Al Gores cock at those AGW conferences.

There are only 2 variables in my model, and it may be inaccurate, but lets trust the IPCC, that have doctored evidence in the past and have an agenda. Lets trust models that do not include all the data, say stupid shit like solar forcing is minimal (aka the sun has no effect on climate) and is engineered for an outcome. If the outcome does not happen, we will fake the data to get our result, or change the programming.

That is not science, it's propaganda.

Years ago I watched a program on the Discovery channel concerning climate control. They said that methane would be released to cool the planet if temperatures were to rise too high.

They also mentioned the danger of the atmosphere bursting into flames should there be high enough concentrations of methane and a lightning strike or something similar to ignite it.

So, methane can ignite at concentrations of 5 to 15 percent. Dangers of breathing methane begin at concentrations of about 14 percent.

2nd Peter 3:7 But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of the ungodly men.

Looks like the grand finale may soon be upon us all. I always thought it would end in a nuclear holocaust or something similar, but maybe God has something else is in store for this planet.

2nd Peter 3:12 looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

My theory is that the increased methane will, of course, raise temperatures but the key point is that it will be a positive feedback factor for increasing levels of CO2. For example there will be less ice coverage which results in less reflection of solar heat. I doubt we will make it to Venus temps with the CO2 and temperature runaway effect but we should easily make it to the boiling point of water, which should help alleviate coastal flooding, at the cost of higher humidity.

I'm not a scientist in any way, shape or form. I admire those that do the science though. I'm a big picture thinker and after looking at all this years ago I surmised that methane was going to be a key factor in how this climate change problem would play out.

Now it's very very weird for me to see this playing out in real time...like some kind a slow motion movie. I have no idea what the outcome will be of an ice free Arctic but I know it's not good.

And I know that the climate scientists are very very concerned. Enough to ring the alarm bells.

Here are a couple other verses as well. This one from Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

And then there's this one.
Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague where with the Lord shall strike all nations that have fought against Jerusalem: the flesh of every one shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

The last verse from Zechariah led me to think perhaps a nuclear strike of sorts.

And then, of course, there's always the danger of our sun itself going ballistic. We'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out. Don't know for certain how these prophesies will be fulfilled just that they're sure to come to pass exactly as predicted the same as others that have already been fulfilled.

Another climate denier...sigh...

There are many that will not listen, and you are obviously one of them. I don't argue with people anymore about this, that is total and blatant disrespect to the climate scientists of this world.

Only in the US have our climate scientists been so disrespected. And you will notice that all the links I provide in my article are based on research, not some random links. And yes, I like being able to freelance for a "liberal" news site that lets me report the truth. I don't have to bow down to the pressures of MSM editors.

Oh no I've been labeled a denier! A disrespectful denier at that... When these "scientists" quit insulting our intelligence with falsified data and agenda driven (and funded) pseudo-science, then more people will listen.

You are also a useful idiot, one the paper can use for its agenda, then cast aside when you are of no more use to them. You are a cog of the repressive machine that seeks to dominate all thought through codewords and political correct language. Disagreeing with your position is not possible as you have already shown. You dismiss anyone with simple double-speak without ever addressing the issues. The penultimate mark of a shill.

How many gun control freelance articles have you written for that fish-wrap?

January 8, 2007 -- The environmental "surge" you're not hearing anything about.

From a GLP thread years ago - this was in 2007 and I remember this was very interesting.

According to U.S. maritime industry sources, tanker captains are reporting an increase in onboard alarms from hazard sensors designed to detect hydrocarbon gas leaks and, specifically, methane leaks. However, the leaks are not emanating from cargo holds or pump rooms but from continental shelves venting increasing amounts of trapped methane into the atmosphere. With rising ocean temperatures, methane is increasingly escaping from deep ocean floors. Methane is also 21 more times capable of trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.

In fact, one of the major sources for increased methane venting is the Hudson Submarine Canyon, which extends 400 miles into the Atlantic from the New York-New Jersey harbor. Another location experiencing increased venting is the Santa Barbara Channel on the California coast.

Re: "An event unprecedented in human history is today" - Methane gas at record highs
