"The stealth withdrawals by Russians of course means that the two megabanks are now utterly drained of capital, and that the haircuts on those who still have unsecured deposits with the two banks will be so big it will likely mean a complete wipeout of all deposits. As in 0% recovery on your deposits!

In other words, by now any big Russian funds in Cyprus are long gone, and the only damage accrues to the locals: for one reason because their money over the critical EUR100K threshold has been "vaporized", and for another because the marginal driving force and loan demand creator in Cyprus, the Russians, are gone and are never coming back again.

This is what passes for monetary real-politik in the New Normal - an entire nation becomes collateral when pursuing a wealthy group of people.

If we were Cypriots at this point we would be angry. Very, very angry."

"Cyprus, like just about every other country on the planet, has for decades been politically committed to a Socialist based economy.
In this scenario, politicians have promised benefits to the various voting classes which have far exceeded their annual tax revenue.
This has caused its government to continually accumulate deficits that have resulted in a very large national debt in relation to its GDP.
This debt has been collateralized by sovereign bonds sold to and purchased by large banks in Europe and elsewhere.
Now this debt has become so large the government of Cyprus can no longer afford to pay even the interest, let alone reduce principal."

It's even worse than that. How much of the local unsecured over 100,000 euros is left. I don't think it's enough to fill in the 5.8 billion dollar gap. And then add to the fact that thursday or next month or next year, the day that the banks open their will be a run and people will take all their money out. The protection of t he 100,000 euros and below was persuant to getting enough money from the ones over 100,000 euros.

We may see them decide to change their mind and take a percentage out of the under 100,000 euro deposits. These idiots really F this up big time.

It's so preposterous i wonder if it's not a preplanned triggered crisis. maybe they're ready to gear up the whole thing.

It's the whole commie deal that killed the economy, including the unions. Free markets it's the only way to make a nation prosper, put the government in the middle and it slowly eats away the fabric of the nation until you stop producing and you become a peasant being fed meager breadcrumbs to survive and then asking to be grateful to them. The banks without the compliance of the government couldn't have done any of what they did.

What happens in Cyprus is part of the great power game between the West and Russia.
The Russians had the impudence to create with Cyprus a base in the EU, in the euro and in the Mediterranean.
This must be stopped and they have to leave.

Whats really funny through this whole mess, was last week the Cypriots were asked to tax the accounts at 9.9%

They rejected that because it was unpopular.

Instead they have opted for taxing them at anything from 30-70%.

Everyone seems to have forgotten about the 10% they were originally offered.

Its fucking madness, how did they reject 10% and agree to 70?

Something is wrong with the whole way this has been negotiated and handled it doesn't make sense.

Murray Rothbard once wrote something that touches on the point you raise. He wrote that,

"the inherently antithetical classes were not businessmen vs. workers, but the producers in society (including free businessmen, workers, peasants, etc.) versus the exploiting classes constituting, and privileged by, the State apparatus."

And something that Paul Craig Roberts wrote recently is also pertinent:

"Gerald Celente predicts that the elites will not survive the hatred and anger that they are bringing upon themselves. I suspect that he is correct. The American middle class is being destroyed. The working class has become a proletariat, and the social welfare system is being destroyed in order to reduce the budget deficit caused by the loss of tax revenues to jobs offshoring and the expense of wars, overseas military bases, and financial bailouts. The American people are being compelled to suffer in order that elites can continue with their agendas.

The US elites know what is coming. That is why they created a Nazi-style Ministry of the Interior known as Homeland Security, armed with enough ammunition to kill every American five times and with tanks to neutralize the Second Amendment rights of Americans.

Pistols and rifles are useless against tanks, as the Branch Davidians found out in Waco, Texas. The protection of a small handful of elites from the Americans they are oppressing is also the reason the police are being militarized, brought under Washington’s control and armed with drones that can assassinate the real leaders of the American people who will be, not in the legislative, executive, or judicial chambers, but in the streets.

Internment camps in the US appear to be real and not a conspiracy theory.

The threat that the US government poses to its own citizens was recognized on March 7, 2013, by two US Senators, Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rand Paul (R-KY), who introduced a bill to prevent the US government from murdering its own citizens: “The Federal Government may not use a drone to kill a citizen of the United States who is located in the United States” unless the person “poses an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury to another individual. Nothing in this section shall be construed to suggest that the Constitution would otherwise allow the killing of a citizen of the United States in the United States without due process of law.”

The “indispensable people” with their presidents Bush and Obama have begun the 21st century with death and violence. That is their only legacy.

The death and violence that Washington has unleashed will come back to Washington and to the corrupt political elites everywhere. As Gerald Celente says, the first great war of the 21st century has begun.

In 1944, John T. Flynn outlined the basic form of fascism. He wrote that:

"As we survey the whole scene in Italy, therefore, we may now name all the essential ingredients of fascism. It is a form of social organization,

1. In which the government acknowledges no restraint upon its powers—totalitarianism.

2. In which this unrestrained government is managed by a "leader".

3. In which the government is organized to operate the capitalist system and enable it to function-under an immense bureaucracy.

4. In which the economic society is organized on the syndicalist model, that is by producing groups formed into craft and professional categories under supervision of the state.

5. In which the government and the syndicalist organizations
operate the capitalist society on the planned, autarchial principle.

6. In which the government holds itself responsible to provide the nation with adequate purchasing power by public spending and borrowing.

7. In which militarism is used as a conscious mechanism of government spending, and

8. In which imperialism is included as a policy inevitably flowing from militarism as well as other elements of fascism.

Wherever you find a nation using all of these devices you will know that this is a fascist nation. In proportion as any nation uses most of them you may assume it is tending in the direction of fascism."

There is no way that after the lockdown anyone could have secretly transferred anything.

The Russians criminals and corrupt leaders stashing away their stolen money in Cyprus are going to have to take that haircut with or without the theatrics.

Since it is all indirect protesting (ie; nobody is speaking out personally) we can safely assume that all that Russian money in Cyprus has blood on it.

And that bloodmoney is used to protect the normal Cypriote families from obliteration.

No matter how you look at it, when saner though prevail everybody will come to understand it is a good deal for Cyprus and good for the EU and the Euro.

Wrong, you don't cure an illness trying to alleviate the symptoms, you go to the root of the problem. How long until Cyprus needs another rescue? How much are you willing to indebt sovereign nations to the private bankers? This is merely a small dose of a tranquilizer for the pain, nothing else, the tumor is still growing and eventually if left alone it will kill its host.
"White privilege" is the liberal religion's version of Original Sin: you are born guilty, and you carry that burden of guilt all your life, and the only way to escape eternal damnation is for white people confess their sin, to bow, kneel and believe the dogma of the Church of Liberalism, genuflect at its altars, honor its saints, fill the collection plate, and never, ever doubt.

They didn't secretly transfer anything. They didn't need to. Cyprus couldn't close branches of their banks located in other countries so the Russians just went to those other countries and withdrew their funds.

Turns out most of the Russian money was from legitimate businesses too.
Not as dirty as they were making it out to be.

"Aleksashenko says he suspects they are “medium oligarchs,” wealthy individuals and business owners who wanted to keep money offshore as a safeguard against political and economic risk at home. Capital flight from Russia has intensified in recent years, reaching at least $50 billion in 2012. Cyprus’s close cultural and religious ties with Russia, and its tradition of banking secrecy, have made it an attractive haven.

Clearly, some Russian money in Cyprus banks has come from unsavory sources. Investigators hunting $230 million stolen in a Russian fraud uncovered by tax attorney Sergei Magnitsky traced millions to bank accounts owned by shell companies in Cyprus.

But some legitimate Russian businesses have used Cypriot subsidiaries to handle their foreign sales, avoiding cumbersome Russian regulations on such transactions. Those companies could now find their Cypriot accounts effectively frozen by strict new capital controls, says Grigory Birg, an analyst at Moscow-based financial research group Investcafe. “That could have drastic consequences for Russian companies,” he says."

Bank notes are simply receipts for your actual gold.

The bank is supposed to have the gold to back up all the money deposited with it.

Guess again. Maybe that's the way it was supposed to be in your country, but once it's a Fiat currency, no more.

The US dollar has been a Fiat currency for a while now.

Fiat basically means it's worth what they say it's worth. "Full faith and credit (yeah, right) of yada yada yada..."

Funny how orthodox christian countries are the biggest targets/victims of "Western" treachery. From the Wall St. funded Bolsheviks to the NATO-bombed Serbs, and now to bankster-corrupted and impoverished Greece, Pussy Riot beset Russia, and now Cyprus....
