I busted my coccyx, 2nd, and 3rd vertibrae at 18. Every now and then it gives me aggro. I once leant over a desk and spazzed up. Literally couldn't move for five minutes. Then it just hurts for ages. All in my right side lower back, arse cheek and hip. It flared up yesterday. Not nice. OP I feel for you, sounds like you got it much worse than me. Maybe acupuncture might help? Just a thought. Peace.x |

I live with it and have a slantboard I use for natural traction. Like others said above, trying to stretch laying half off the bed is a good idea..anything you can do to take pressure off the problem area is great. If you have someone else there, they can help you stretch by pulling your legs and then relaxing, pulling and then relaxing just like a traction machine does. I also pretty much live with a heating pad at home and the office. SO SORRY FOR YOU :( :( T For Texas, T For Tennessee! When I had that problem I went to a chiropractor for six months with no results and I was in such pain that he finally told me to get a prescriptions from my MD for a muscle relaxer and pain killer. When I went to my MD I was given that for immediate relief but also sent to physical therapy. The treatment there was 6 appointments over the course of two weeks using interferential therapy. I was feeling better after a couple of visits and by the end of 6 visits I was 99% better. I highly recommend it! The treatment was 1) relax the area by applying moist heat, clay packs in warm moist towels for about 20 minutes. Then using electrodes, a gentle electric impluse is sent which re-adusts the nerve impulses along a different circuit. Instead of reinforcing the old "pain circuit" it channels the electricity a different way, through a new circuit. This may not be the exact scientific or medical explanation, so google it - interferential therapy. But it worked for me and maybe it would work for you. After six months feeling like pins and needles, not able to sit, stand, or even lie down comfortably, this was a great blessing. Good luck! |

I feel for ya... BAD! I'm 54. I had compression fractures of five vertebrae when I was 22. About 6 years later (after the lawsuit, so no more medical bills covered) I had the most intense "SCIATICA" you could imagine. I had to sleep with a chair on my bed and my leg held up on it. I worked in the film business and had to drive 7 ton trucks, with my right leg up on the dashboard. I saw chiropractors, doctors, even went back to Chicago to see my neurologist. EVERY ONE OF THEM WANTED TO OPERATE! Then I tried acupuncture. The first couple didn't work. THEN, I found one who was the director of chinese medicine at UCLA medical center. My life changed! He put the needles in (house call) and came back the next day to give me some herbal tea. He was surprised to see me answer the door casually. He told me to call him if I started feeling pain. About an hour later WOW! HOLEEE CRAP! The sharpest pain I ever felt in my life. I couldn't get comfortable in any position. I didn't sleep that night and called him. He said "good, it's working!" He opened up the "channel and all the years of blocked energy were running through normally now. That was it! A week of no sleep, crazy pain, then over a period of 2 months and 3 more short visits from him I was CURED! My accident was around 1982. My treatment with this guy was in 1993. I haven't even felt a twinge since. I know this is the internet and you can't believe barely anything you read. But, I know your pain and remember mine. If you can find a good acupuncturist, best chance is through referral, TRY IT! It can't do any harm and it might help. Our medical system is now beyond "if" acupuncture works and now studying "why" and "how" it works. Good luck. Sciatica affects your whole life and there's answers for it out there. |

I know the pain. Had pinched sciatic nerve several years ago. Worst pain ever. Struggled into chiropractor office on crutches. Walked out feeling great! If your sciatica is caused by a pinched nerve in your back, a chiropractic adjustment might fix it. |

Had it for SEVERAL MONTHS! Like hell on earth. Went from sitting on a frozen "hot" water bottle to heating pad, to oxy, to exercises, and many times in tears. Continual excruciating PAIN in my right hip, 24/7. Thought it might NEVER go away, then over the course of about a week, it just disappeared. Whenever I get a twinge in that area, it send shivers down my spine in fear. |

Sorry ... I was trying some light stretching, which hurt., a lot. Tennis ball is good if you're not already f*k'd up (and you don't have dogs). In this case, the result was pain, and some additional pain. I find it hard to believe that this is a 'common' affliction - but apparently I am wrong. — read for knowledge, not answers. |

Another thing I use is Thermacares. Like a portable heating pad and SO AWESOME when you are suffering. They are expensive, but one lasts all day and night, and you aren't tied down to your heating pad. T For Texas, T For Tennessee! I can't sit. I can't stand. I can't lay down. Quoting: amachiavellian Fuck - I sneezed yesterday, and almost fell to my knees. Putting on my socks this morning was a whole new ball of fresh hell. My dog is completely pissed off and confused because I keep yelping in pain, but that doesn't seem to stop her from trying to trip me. I found some relief laying on my stomach with my head hanging over the edge of the bed (or sofa) with my arms at my sides, but I can only do that for so long. So I'm stuck until tomorrow until I can get a CT to find out what I'm dealing with. All I have are baby aspirins my friend left here, and two beers. I am generally irritated and in pain. I had it baaaaad...not sure which one or both fixed it but I do take a liquid vitamin/mineral but I also have been doing coffee enema's for a while now. Either way...I don't have the issue any longer. |

The best stretch you can do is to lay on the floor and cross one ankle to knee put hands behind thigh and pull towards chest. If thats to much try a hip lift. Stand on a step and dangle one foot off the step. Lift that hip towards shoulder hold and release. Do Both sides! |

Weed works. Make tea: Boil cannabis in whole milk with added cream or butter -or coconut oil, if you like the taste(optional: you can also add chai tea and honey or hot cocoa mix) Sip slowly throughout the day. Smoking can sometimes cause increased pain. |

I can take pain pretty well but sciatica brought me to tears. plus the neighbors could hear my shrieks of pain weeks on end. My cruel ex wife called me a cry baby and told me to fend for myself. So i also got a crash course on the cruelty and dark side of humanity that ill never forget. They dont give pain killers out at the pain clinic either unless you are a woman. I dont know a single guy that was given pain killers from the local clinic. Instead they get those shots in the back that never work. Only option is the ER and thats 50/50 on wether they give any pain killers or not. And you cant keep doing that. Sciatica is hell. My sympathies. |
