Children of the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's... I remember actually bumming a cigarette from the shop class teacher, he was really cool (Drove a tricked out Camaro) I then recall the school had a "crackdown" and the principal came on the loudspeaker and said any kids who smoke have to do it in the student parking lot. Most kids had loaded deer rifles in their cars and trucks, nobody ran in the school and massacred students. Those were the days. p.s. Tobacco was not the only thing being lit up

I was part of the "stoner" crowd, smoked weed nearly every day at school, I had a brass paint sprayer nozzle I modified in shop class, turned it into a "zeppelin" smokeless pipe for use in class or the cafeteria, those were some crazy days, most of my memories of high school are a blur. Wild Weasels? You've got to be shitting me!

Yup, designated smoking area at school...across the street or in the woods across from the school. Commonplace to hang out at 7-11 before & after school to smoke & get high on pot. It was burritos & big gulps for a stoners lunch. Cigs were under a dollar, rarely carded, and no one was killed by our parents guns or friends rifles.

We had a big 'smoking area' out back too... 1980. They shut it down a year or 2 after I graduated. It could be seen from a major highway and apparently some busybody shitheads complained.

And I bet things are still the same unless it's a city school where a teacher stands in there supervising that no one does smoke.

When I started HS in '72, you could smoke in the basement commons room. It was a place you could go instead of study hall. Carpet, music. Everyone sat on the floor. And there were butt cans in the bathrooms. You weren't supposed to smoke there, but they figured it saved on plumbing costs. No one can even conceive how much we've lost.

I think gas was $1.25/gal. 1983 I believe was the year.

Smoking was allowed on school grounds and in the courtyard adjacent to the cafeteria. The stopped it when I was in either in 11th or 12th grade 1990 I believe. We could also smoke in the buses to and from school as long as you had a 'cool' bus driver and you threw your butts out the window.

Yep...got caught in 1972 in the high school restroom with a lit cigarette. I was sent to the principal's office and was threatened all the way there I would be expelled. Thing was, the principal lived across the street from us and knew it would be an uncomfortable situation with my dad... so he let me go and told me not to do it again. Whew!

I remember finishing gegs at noon hour at the local beach in and goin back to class I also remember smoking weed then goin to Mcdonalds for a quarter pounder and it was thick juicy and all meat. A hamburger back then was even better than the quarter pounders now.
