I have just been thinking what if the magmatic pathways, at a very deep level (60-30km deep), have a common origin between Hekla, Katla and Torfajokull. Actually they have a common origin also coming from the hotspot under Vatnajokull which extends southwestwards.

Somehow I have been noticing that: deep earthquakes on these volcanoes can sometimes happen in these regions one after the other and around the same time.

That would explain the common origin deep down between Katla and Eyjafjallajokull, and also between Veidivotn and Torfajokull. Hekla could also have a common deep link to these nearby volcanoes.

Just wild speculation.

Tremor seems to be rising a little too – with a tiny red spike to go with it.

Volcanoes are amazingly unpredictable and beautiful to watch! Thanks for the updates.

this may be the point where you try to get a plane and flee as long as it is still possible.
if hekla erupts it will be months if not years of airtraffic disrution in northern and middle europe.

not elevated, where do you see it? : We can add another volcano to the list of restless volcanoes today — Jon Frimann noted that Hekla in Iceland is showing some signs of potential activity. Seismic activity at the volcano has prompted the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police to declare an “uncertainty phase” for Hekla. That translates to the lowest (beyond no activity) level of warning for a restless Icelandic volcano. This change in status is the result of a tight cluster of very small earthquakes (none in the past few days, but you can check this link for updates) since March 10 on the northeast side of the summit caldera. These earthquakes are still relatively deep, occurring at 11-12 km below the volcano — however, these earthquakes don’t entirely suggest that new magma is intruding as they appear to reflect brittle fracture of rock rather than dilation due to magma. Coupled with a lack of any signs of ground deformation at Hekla, there are no signs that an eruption is imminent. That being said, this unrest has also prompted the Icelandic Meteorological Office to upgrade the aviation alert status for Hekla to Yellow, mainly due to the unusual nature of this activity at the volcano.

The last eruption at Hekla was in 2000, but they can spectacular events, with multiple VEI 3 and 4 eruptions over the past century. This current unrest is unusual for Hekla and does not clearly point towards a new eruption — but with any Icelandic volcano, it should be closely watched for changes. If anything does happen, be sure to watch the Hekla webcam pointed at the volcano.

what scares the shit out of me is the fact that hekla is also the stove for katla.
means that hekla eruption could be a trigger for katla volcano and then we see 3 days of darkness indeed!

Official statement from the Iceland Civil Defense

The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police (NCIP) and the Police commissioner at Hvolsvöllur declare an uncertainty phase (lowest level of warning), because of seismic activity in mount Hekla.

The Icelandic Met Office has informed the Civil Protection and Emergency Management of NCIP about unusual seismic activity in mount Hekla. The Icelandic Met Office has raised the ICAO aviation color code to yellow concerning air traffic, which means that mount Hekla is showing an unusual activity.

Uncertainty phase means that supervision has been raised on that course of events that may threaten public health and safety, or that environment or inhabited area may be threatened. To declare an uncertainty face is a part of work process in the setup of public safety to secure a formal communication between response teams and to secure dissemination of information.
