William Henry wrote an interesting book of the same title of this thread. His

Thanks! I was looking for a PDF to post but couldn't find one.

This subject reminds me of a Hopi story much like the story of the Tower of Babel. To paraphrase: Like usual, after given instructions to live in harmony with the Earth from the creator Tiaowa, the people eventually became corrupt and petty again and along came the bird Mochni, who was "like a mockingbird", to confuse the languages.

I believe it was in the World (epoch) before that incident that we were able to communicate directly with other animals, before we lost that ability by becoming corrupted.
 Quoting: Aniwti 31456116

you're most welcome!

from another great read....

"The Serpentine Mind
Disentangles
From the branches of confusion
Uncoils its knowledge to greet the dawn
And sees
In the growing light

Great colored, feathered wings
That grew unnoticed in its sleep

Understanding perfectly
In a single rush of joy

It flies above the ancient promises
Beyond where the forest lies
To the sea
The open sea

As rings around the Morning Star
Light corridors through the air"

just knowing

Intuitive knowing...perhaps putting that in the context of how the ancients would have expressed that.

Yes, this sounds correct. They would have said it was coming from god, or something similar (language of higher beings, etc.)

If, at some point, you begin 'knowing' knowledge or 'how the universe works' etc, intuitively, of course they would think it was coming in from on high. Makes perfect sense. Also, they say the Language of the Birds cannot be expressed in normal language. Most spiritual experiences cannot be described properly in language.

Re: The Language of the Birds
Last autumn when the love of my life died suddenly, i was so sad in grief over him it was as if another dimension of the reality of this world's oneness had opened. The bushes bent toward me playing music with their twigs when I'd pass by. The sun would go behind a cloud when my eyes hurt from crying. I couldn't sit down without a grasshopper or fuzzy caterpillar joining me to keep company. It seemed like the birds all knew it and wanted to go all out to give me comfort. No matter what time I was outside in the yard the birds would sing and soon many would be hopping around doing antics nearby me. Even when I'd go outside late at night, soon one bird would start chirping and then soon many more would be awake singing and entertaining me. They'd fly & swoop & sing it back when I'd whistle-word "Thank You!" to them.
Things are somewhat back to normal now.

Webster’s says ‘Oc’ is the root of octo, 8, and ocular, the eye. A related Egyptian word, Ak, means ‘light’, and aker means ‘light being’. Ak-hu is the archetypal Cosmic Man of Light, or ideal archetype of humanity found in a host of Hermetic and Gnostic teachings, whether Egyptian, Jewish, Christian or Islamic. As Mircea Eliade notes in Shamanism, among the Iglulik Eskimos, who were driven out of some unknown homeland, a sequence of initiations concludes with the ang-ak-oq (virtually the same word as Languedoc or L’ang-ak-oq), meaning ‘lightening’ or ‘illumination’.

This angakoq, writes Eliade, consists of,

“a mysterious light which the shaman suddenly feels in his body, inside his head, within his brain, an inexplicable searchlight, a luminous fire which enables him to see with both eyes, both literally and metaphorically speaking, for he can now, even with closed eyes, see through darkness and perceive things and coming events which are hidden from others.”

The emphasis here is on eyes and light.

Enlightenment is exactly what the Cathars claimed they received from the highly symbolic Language of Oc. As an investigative mythologist, it is of great interest to me that the Egyptian hieroglyph of the heron/phoenix, , the ‘bird of light’ (akh), so closely matches the stylized fish glyph of Jesus , though it predates him by millennia. In addition, these two symbols are structurally identical to , the mathematical sign sometimes used for infinity, which spells OC. It is the root for ‘octo’ or 8. These symbols suggest a continuous transmission of knowledge of the secrets of light.

The Greek form Babylon is an adaptation of Akkadian Babili. The Babylonian name as it stood in the 1st millennium BC had been changed from an earlier Babilli in early 2nd millennium BC, meaning "Gate of God" or "Gateway of the God" by popular etymology. The earlier name Babilla appears to be an adaptation of a non-Semitic source of unknown origin or meaning.
