Yep. That's why the banks didn't open today and will be opening (supposedly) on Thursday. The bail in had to be recalculated. That's why the % of the levy keeps going up. There is less and less money in the bank to work with. They most likely won't be able to cover the insured accounts. So now they have to figure out what to do.
Bank run in Cyprus already took place IMO.

Are people able to withdraw funds from Cyprus via outside branches though? I think when a bank has branches in another country the deposits are separate and policies are different. Am I mistaken?

I am NOT an expert, but common sense tells me international accounts (the ones used by big players) can be used everywhere - including UK and Russia...

Thats why I said, cyprus citizens won't have a penny in aliki when that shit opens.. all the money wil be gone.

When I lived in Cyprus most ordinary cypriots had all their money in property. As soon as a daughter is born they start building a house for her wedding gift.

Almost everyone nowadays has bank debt, not just people, companies etc...if they take people's money as well, and with no way of paying loan debt, banks will take property as payment.

Im going to bed, keep this thread alive people, in less than 2 days, something big might happen.

When the banks do open- I'm wondering if they'll impose a maximum amount for withdrawal?

At this point I could see almost every single person wanting to clean out their accounts. How would the bank ever accomodate that?

Listening to Greg Mannarino, this bank of Cyprus has branches out of the country that are still open and allowing those customers to take their money out. Some are in Russia. But the people of Cyprus are screwed.

It will spread to Europe and eventually come here. All of our banks will be shut down as they usher in their new way of doing things. We'll get screwed in the process.....

It's all fucked...bank runs begin the minute the doors open, people will not forget the problems they had accessing their money, while they got to pay the bank fee's and likely part of their account for the privilege of doing business with said bank...

pre-euro, 5 short years ago, cyprus has had 5% unemployment. today it is 14%. it will be twice that by the the they have finished screwing with it


100,000 euros is relative peanuts. like the above poster said - that kind of money is JUST the kind of money people have to see themselves through. theyre not the mega wealthy, who will either have already dodged this, or barely feel a dent


and after all this stealing, they still fall massively short of what is needed


and all this chatter about who gets robbed is almost semantics in this case - because the troika crossed a line - its ok now to just help themselves to your money

All to robbed small and large accounts.
Capital controls.
No one is getting their money back.

All I hear is that, oh well! The people above 100K Euro will have a percentage stolen from them. That I guess is OK, they were all Russian criminals and fat cats, Bull S**T. How about businesses that have money in the banks, now they loose 40%, how is that good for the economy. And just the fact they are taking the money, I do not care that it is above 100k Euro and they are criminals and the fat cats, THIS IS JUST PLAIN THEFT AND WRONG! And who is to say that they will not come back and that money below 100k Euro. I wonder if the Cypriots get the relationship between the money and jobs. I believe there will be massive job loss, because businesses loose 40%, how can a business survive under this circumstance? This is also a plan to pump the markets. People will take their money out of the banks and they have to put it somewhere, and that somewhere is the stock market. What a brilliant scam. If we so not stand up to the banks and let them fail we are all doomed. Cyprus do what Iceland did. Please for the sake of your people
