Sky News were reporting it to be 3,000 euros earlier today. Seems they are changing their rules in a panic. I feel sorry for all the ex-pats who are stuck there now.

I say all foreigners should head to the British Sovereign Base Area and demand protection from a corrupt and out-of-control Cypriot government. They should bring cash with them and then the British government should fly them out - with however much money they want - to Britain and then the people can spend the money here in the UK.

Fuck the Cypriot government. May they burn in hell (along with politicians and bankers of all nationalities).

who benefits from this process?

the german/other european central banks sends Euros to cyprus
the cypriot government backs the move with asset transaction guarantees (preferential gas exploration rights to loan country companies/spin of off state assets to merkel etc. friendly businessmen)
the cypriots take the Euros out of cypriot banks and put it striaght into new accounts that they've opened with branches of deutche bank BNP paribas et al.

the euros the germans sent wind up straight back in their banks and they collect on the assets due to default.

put simply by offering the Euros they are giving the cypriot banks and cyprus as a whole the rope to hang themselves with and will take back not just the rope but also the entire countries asset base at the end of the process.

The cypriots overall would have been better served walking away from the euro reintroducing the cypriot pound converting all euros held and external debts owed to a "new cyp pound" and devaluing.
