Lose Weight By Fasting Once a Week ...
I developed a plan that worked really well for me. Have a read and let me know what you think....The following plan had me steadily losing 2lbs a week. I went from 220 to 170 in about 4 months.

The basic idea is to do a 24-36 hour fast once per week. I ended up liking it so much on a spiritual level that I also added to that a longer fast of 5 days.

Here's the tips...


(1) Fast on a days when you have low stress. Makes it easier, I dont think I could do it while working. And limit your physcial activity on fast days this is very important. Unless you are used to it I advise just laying about the house your first time, of course others may need something to do to take your mind off eating.

(1a) Very important - good supply of water, drink lots of it while fasting. When hungry, drink.

(2) Begin fast late at night, like say 10pm. By the time 10am comes around you already done 12 hours! And your body has gone past the really hungry pain feeling during the night. At night your body goes into a mini fast, so you are working off the tail end of that.

(3) Fasting is supposed to be really good for you ( weight loss, lowers your blood pressure ). I started off one 24 hr day per week, expect your body to show much resistance the first time you do it, you might get strange pains, light headaches etc...( I personally never got headaches )...and you may notice your sense of smell as in food has increased in sensitivity.

(4) Customize fasting to suit you

(5) Some people fast as a way of life. I was skeptical, but after seeing the results and also forces your mind to look inward or work in a different way. You are literally changing your body chemistry. I've gotten some interesting insights into my own life on fasts. Once I get down to the weight I want I may continue fasting once a week, or maybe a bit less.

(6) If you feel inordinatley weak or huge headaches, immediatley get off the fast.

As a retired exercise / weights guy I can tell you. This fasting works better than when I used to hit the gym. Combine that with gym and you'll be shedding the pounds like anything. I'm sure the heat this summer will also help.... I'm currently working on a bit of a modified routine combining fasting with some minimal resistance lifting on non-fast days to keep strength up, generally I dont exercise anymore.

8 weeks along I've lost about 20+ pounds. Usually fasting days I feel great....my longest span yet has been this latest fast at 45 hours and hoping to make it through the night I've read somewhere that its good to do a once per week fast (24hrs ) and then throughout the year a three longer fasts.

There may be a lot of naysayers, I go with what works for me. This may not be 100% accurate, but while fasting your body has no food energy because you are not eating, so it has to go directly to the fat stores.

Curiously fasting has opened my mind up to my own personal relationship with food, there were a lot of things that were not right about my attitudes towards it. Since beginning fasting I eat a lot less generally and generally choose healthier foods....but also continue to snack, but in smaller amounts now. And these mental alterations are only some of the benefits of fasting that I found.

I'm 40 this summer and people think I'm in my mid to late 20's. Doesn't hurt that my hair is dark and still vibrant. I've maintained my weight at a light-muscular 190 working out only with Yoga and rings only a few minutes a week.

I've lost 20 pounds thus far, and as a monopod, this isn't as easy as it looks. I haven't tried an actual 24 hour or longer fast, but I have increased my water intake a LOT, and eat so much leafy greens, and other heavy water veggies that it's been very steady with the weight loss. I eat anywhere from 600-900 calories a day. I never feel HUNGRY, just a little uncomfortable at night if i go to bed just a tiny bit hungry. Water seems to fix it immediately.

Also, I know lots of folks worry about 'starvation mode'. That is true if you have no fat to spare. I do. I have another 29 pounds to go to be to goal. I count the calories of every damn thing I put into my mouth. And I would bet i'm STILL getting in more calories than I think I am.

I like this idea actually. I also like to trick my body now and again and 'take a day off' about every two weeks. Usually that means a steak dinner with beer. Nothing crazy, just extra calories for a day. Maybe an extra 500 or so.

I want to lift weights also. A lil cardio, a lil weight lifting reps, and a fast now and then. I'll be to goal in no time.

also should be mentioned that the closer you get to your natural proper weight the less pounds you will lose through fasting. I was at a steady 2 lbs per week until I hit 170, then it was very very hard to break that plateau.

Probably alot of water weight or sodium, if i go to the gym in morning im 12'12, yet at night am 13.4 so i would beleive this, its all water weight though not actual 14 pounds of fat lost

It is hard for me, I am new to it, so I am doing baby steps. My work is very strenous.


So, I can understand all you say about its mental effects and the way it distances you from overeating, even when you return to food.

You can make do with less.

I am lucky to lose an ounce from fasting for 24 hours.

I have hashimoto's thyroid which makes it extremely hard to lose weight.

well, i dont exactly fast out of "choice", but yea the results of not eating for a couple days every week helps you lose weight pretty quickly. Naturally, you may want to gorge on a ton of food after the fast, but remember your body always want to keep its status quo; your sense of hunger will out shine what your belly can actually hold, as your body naturally wants to take in as many calories as possible wants it has access to food once again.

Works wonders for the metabolism as well; food will start running so quick you will think you're shitting live.

The 5:2 diet says non-consecutive days. I do Monday and Thursday.

When I can motivate myself to fast I do an early dinner and begin around 6 or 7 p.m. Then by the time you sleep, wake up, go to work, you're ready to eat when you get home.

For example, just eat food during the hours of 11am and 7pm daily........(proper, high quality foods naturally).


Forget about the modern society 3 meals a day stuff......and try to mimic what happens naturally in the animal kingdom......namely periods of time without being able to find food.

I rarely eat anything for BREAK FAST. Just a cup of tea usually, then a banana a bit later. I don't like the idea of stuffing the stomach after such a long break without eating "most important meal" my ass.
