The movie was ok, but nothing like the book. As soon as I heard about the vial going missing, it reminded me of The Stand. Quoting: katballoo The mini-series ain't bad. Probably the best King screen treatment in existence. The end should have been less hokey though, it didn't really translate well from the book. It would be really hard to translate the end of the book into a movie. I liked using my imagination when reading the book. The characters in the movie just didn't seem to fit my vision of them. |

It seems to only be able to reassort with closely related viruses, however. Meaning, it seems to have an easy time swapping gene fragments with another arenavirus like Lassa. Here's an overview of arenavirus variations: www.mdpi.com/1999-4915/5/1/241/pdf-vor However, the freaky part comes at page 248: "Serial passages of arenaviruses in cell lines or animals could lead to the accumulation of mutations changing the viral phenotype from the natural reservoirs or from clinical samples " Does this sound familiar to any of you? Nearly all of the cases were individuals who worked or lived in Guanarito during the time they became infected. The case fatality rate was 23.1%.[3] Because the virus is contracted by aerosol dissemination, concern arose shortly after the first cases emerged in 1989 due to fear of biological warfare. Potential biological terrorism agents were identified and categorized in 1999 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of the Congressional initiative to further response capabilities to biological weapons [4] . Arenaviruses causing hemorrhagic fevers, along with a genus of virus called filoviruses, were categorized in Category A; these are pathogens with the highest potential impact on public health safety. A notable event in the timeline of this virus' scientific knowledge was the unexplained disappearance of a vial of the virus at the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston National Laboratory, announced 2013 March 24.[5] [edit]Virus [link to en.wikipedia.org] KITKAT123 |

Don't be so quick to call someone a moron. 1 Timothy 3:16 KJV And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Mark 16:16 KJV He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Acts 2:38 KJV Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Romans 8:6-9 KJV 6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Matthew 15:8-9 KJV 8) This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9) But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Acts 5:29 KJV Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. "The biggest sign from God, to let us all know that man can never be God? Death." - Anonymous |

I don't think that means 90% of humans should die or be killed though. The virus does not transmit person to person sooo.... kind of doesn't matter does it? I can argue that point. Happy to! You could not be more mistaken, and you've apparently listened to too many eliminationists. The Earth is nowhere near capacity (my personal opinion is that we've not even reached 5%). Today, all of our famines are politically caused, and not due to a lack of arable land or water or other resources. All of them. Improved farming techniques consistently expand crop yields, and we haven't even begun to use all the available farmland. And when we need more, we'll make more. I know this to be true because we have the ability to do so TODAY, and no foreseeable need to well into the future. Unless humanity suddenly forgets how to clear and convert wilderness into farmland, we'll be fine for as long as we can project. But that message is boring, right? People like conflict, and tales of woe. The message of "we'll be fine, (or rather, we have the potential to be fine, although we can of course screw it up) and we can prove it" isn't nearly as interesting as the message of "DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! The sky is falling!" Look up "Victory Garden". Heck, look up "Aquaponics" (Example: [link to ibcofaquaponics.com] ) The average non-inner-urban American could produce a large percentage of their own food - quite possibly even a surplus - but we don't because from at least WW2 until now there really hasn't been a reason to, i.e. economically speaking it hasn't made sense. There are a lot of things that most Westerners could do today (I'll leave out the rest of the world on this for now due to their own political handcuffs, leg-shackles and cages) that would prove to them in their own eyes that this is true. "Aquaponics" is just one avenue, and not the "magic answer" that will make everything all right. But it is a start because the "answer" is pretty darn complex. "The Answer" has to do with our citizens being (or return to being) "individuals", and not being statists. It has to do with rejecting the Left, eradicating Socialism and all the other Marxisms, which are the antithesis of dynamic individuality. Our culture once reflected this. Not perfectly, of course, and this is not a call to "return to the good/bad old days", but rather to learn this historical lessons from then and now of the complete depravity of collectivism vs. the boundless nigh-infinite opportunities afforded to (an by) a culture based on (and rewarding) individual achievement (which YES includes non-compulsory, strictly voluntary or contractually commercial, group efforts as well). LOOK at California! It doesn't take a "full world" to end up with a complete lack of excess capacity - all it takes is a centrally planned and compulsory system to guarantee shortages for all (except for the elite, and often even amongst them too). Everywhere we humans turn our hand we have the ability to transform wasteland into farmlands and wilderness into gardens. The planet thrives best under full-bore exploitation. This is true of wildlife as well. I'll even include strip-mines in this equation because from half a mile away you can't see the hole, yet zillions of people (and other life forms) ultimately benefit from whatever is being mined. Were that not true, there would be no mine. The Earth would NOT be better off without 90% of humanity. Compared to when our planet actually sported those numbers, most of us live in a well-manicured parkland. Instead, the Earth, and everyone and everything on it, would be better off were there no longer even the slightest hint of any of the diverse forms of Marxism. |
