What's with gifts for Jesus birthday & death?

I guess no one answered because most don't know. I would have to dig up the sources but during ancient times the cultures that did child sacrifice started gift giving for holy days that included child sacrifice. The children were taught since the day they were born about being sacrificed and how it was wonderful if they were the one chosen for this horrible act.

When the holy day would come, the children who were not picked were given a gift to say sorry but you weren't chosen. Almost like a consolation prize. Sick I know. The gift that was given most was a doll or something that would resemble a small child. Not only was it a consolation gift but it resembled the children who were picked and sacrificed. This is also where the concept of the cute little chubby angel figurines came from.

Fast forward to old time Germany and other countries in that area. During the time of Christmas they have a character called Krumpus. Take a look on YouTube regarding Krumpus. Pretty freaky. Krumpus was Santa's sidekick. In our country and many others Krumpus was changed to Satan's little helpers the elves.

Anyways, if the children didn't behave during the year they were taught that Krumpus would come, steal them and kill them. They were given gifts on Christmas day to celebrate that they were a good girl or boy and didn't get killed by Krumpus. This is where the saying came from "you better watch out. You better not cry." It was changed to say that Santa is watching them but originally it was Krumpus.

I guess this concept carried on to our gift giving today. Think about it, who are the ones that get the most gifts for our holidays? Who are the ones told to behave to get their gifts? Yep, children.
