If it didnt have the characteristics and behavior of a meteor... It was possibly some sorta experimental craft/weapon... Lot of freaky shit happens in the colorado skies. _______________________ |

Can fireballs appear in different colors? Vivid colors are more often reported by fireball observers because the brightness is great enough to fall well within the range of human color vision. These must be treated with some caution, however, because of well-known effects associated with the persistence of vision. Reported colors range across the spectrum, from red to bright blue, and (rarely) violet. The dominant composition of a meteoroid can play an important part in the observed colors of a fireball, with certain elements displaying signature colors when vaporized. For example, sodium produces a bright yellow color, nickel shows as green, and magnesium as blue-white. The velocity of the meteor also plays an important role, since a higher level of kinetic energy will intensify certain colors compared to others. Among fainter objects, it seems to be reported that slow meteors are red or orange, while fast meteors frequently have a blue color, but for fireballs the situation seems more complex than that, but perhaps only because of the curiosities of color vision as mentioned above. The difficulties of specifying meteor color arise because meteor light is dominated by an emission, rather than a continuous, spectrum. The majority of light from a fireball radiates from a compact cloud of material immediately surrounding the meteoroid or closely trailing it. 95% of this cloud consists of atoms from the surrounding atmosphere; the balance consists of atoms of vaporized elements from the meteoroid itself. These excited particles will emit light at wavelengths characteristic for each element. The most common emission lines observed in the visual portion of the spectrum from ablated material in the fireball head originate from iron (Fe), magnesium (Mg), and sodium (Na). Silicon (Si) may be under-represented due to incomplete dissociation of SiO2 molecules. Manganese (Mn), Chromium (Cr), Copper (Cu) have been observed in fireball spectra, along with rarer elements. The refractory elements Aluminum (Al), Calcium (Ca), and Titanium (Ti) tend to be incompletely vaporized and thus also under-represented in fireball spectra. [link to www.amsmeteors.org] |

Heard it on the morning news. No video capture, but they are searching for someone who caught footage. Quoting: Salt VIDEO of newscast [link to www.9news.com] "KUSA - 9NEWS got a lot of calls and newstips Thursday morning from folks who saw something out of the ordinary on their way to work. The reports are all very similar: a large flash of green light, followed by a trailing green light. It was seen just before 6 a.m. in the northeast sky. We have talked with several local police departments who say they also received calls about the green light. One police dispatcher and one fire dispatcher 9NEWS spoke with said they saw it themselves as they drove to work." I saw something like this a few years back. That night I was walking out to the parking lot on the way to my truck when I noticed a bright green flash in the sky with a tail following it. I immediately thought of the lasers that the aliens were firing in the movie Independence Day. The night got even weirder. As I drove home, I saw a collection of lights in the sky hovering about 1000 feet in the air. When I got home, I put it on Fox News and they were saying that only moments ago the US had shot down a rogue satellite. Were the two connected? Who knows. That is the only time I have seen anything that resembles a UFO. The night of the event was February 20, 2008. Here is a link to the story about the rogue satellite being downed. [link to www.cnn.com] Personally, I think that the green streak is a US laser being used to shoot down rogue meteors. |

I have seen lots of space rocks burning green. The geminid meteor shower is a good time to see the green meteors. Hmm, yet a large flash of green light, followed by a trailing green light sounds really strange. |
