Kentucky set to be first state to legalize hemp production
The Kentucky legislature has agreed to allow industrial hemp to be produced within the state’s limits, a minor victory for many that will require the governor’s signature before the next step can occur.

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D) now has until April 6 to either veto the legislation or sign it into law, but even then the state won’t be allowed to simply start growing the plant to be used for anything from food to fuel: federal legislation outlaws production from coast to coast.

Re: Kentucky set to be first state to legalize hemp production
“This historic legislation puts Kentucky in position to be first in line if and when the federal government legalizes production of industrial hemp,” Agriculture Commissioner James Comer said in a statement this week. “By passing this bill, the General Assembly has signaled that Kentucky is serious about restoring industrial hemp production to the Commonwealth and doing it in the right way. That will give Kentucky’s congressional delegation more leverage when they seek a federal waiver allowing Kentucky farmers to grow hemp.”

“As soon as the governor signs the bill, I’ll be on the plane to Washington” to seek a waiver, added Comer.

A county north of here was pushing hard for it, but from what the city understands is the state is gonna throw it down hard

Its gonna be non bud bearing hemp at that, they want to open a rope factory, state police are arguing they won't be able to tell the difference when it comes to confiscation, this state spends so much on destroying crops out east that if this happened so many jobs would be lost

The KY Comissioner of Agriculture is taking a team to Wash. DC to lobby the FEDs to issue Fed hemp tax stamps to allow cultivation of Industrial hemp. There are Canadian companies that buy and process hemp fiber that have already committed to building processing facilities in KY if this get going. SAVE THE FAMILY FARM! banana2

The biggest opponent is the corn bread mafia. Google them. Also, Cannabis Sativa is a very tall and lanky plant; whereas Cannabis Indica (the so called "good stuff") is short and squatty, and I've heard told, very skunky with sticky buds - yet the KSP can't tell the difference! Drug proscription protects drug cartels. Legalize it and watch the criminals scream to high heaven through their politicians and corrupt law enforcement mouthpieces.

* Note: The descriptive preface of "corrupt" was not necessary when referencing politicians!

They are not the first state to legalize hemp production. It's legal in like 10 of them. No one grows it because the federal government will bring down the full force of the law on them for growing marijuana.

Click the hemp check box, then look how many little hats are everywhere. Know this for a fact that they aren't the first either because it became legal in Washington too when the legalized it last December.

I'm not saying this isn't good news, it's great news. But until hemp is legal on a federal level, you won't see farmers growing it. It's too risky. I also have my doubts about the store systems here in Washington working for the same reason, feds are going to be busting all the state legal stores and legal growers. ( Because they are assholes. )

I posted a thread about this a while back... glad to see its moving forward!

(Im from Kentucky)

my thoughts in the OP of that thread apply here too. so i'm gonna paste em.

I hope this passes!

I will be first to start farming hemp if this is made legal!

Its a damn good cash crop! My local economy needs something like this! I NEED this lol

And historically Hemp has roots (pun intended!) in Kentucky!

Hemp was used extensively by the United States during World War II. Uniforms, canvas, and rope were among the main textiles created from the hemp plant at this time. Much of the hemp used was cultivated in Kentucky and the Midwest.

Historically, hemp production had made up a significant portion of antebellum Kentucky's economy.

Re: Kentucky set to be first state to legalize hemp production
I had a tobacco base that got bought out years ago. I just had the land and another man would grown it and sell it. I just got the money for the use of the land. Now that it no longer exists.....I sell natural gas to a utilities company from the land that I own. That is all I have to make a living on. My dad was a coal miner and a oil and gas prospector in Eastern Ky. I really feel bad for those who live there these days. I am glad I got out. I guess I really wouldn't have if I hadn't married out of there. God blessed me that's for sure.

See what it says about Hemp in the essay above, and it might reveal why England/Britain is dead set against the states legalizing the cultivation of Hemp, which would boost the U.S. economy and make us totally independent. The crux of the essay about 'hempe' is thus:

"When hempe is spun
England's done:"
