I sign into my well used, very comfortable YouTube account...
Only to find that I *simply must* give my phone number and receive a call from Google if I ever want to be able to use my YouTube account again...

Well guess what YouTube...

I couldn't fucking care less, and furthermore, I will have no need for a YouTube account again at any point in the future.

Go fuck yourselves real deep and hard and think of me.

Wow. This is different than the normal backup email/cell phone thing in gmail right? I always just click "save" on that without filling anything out and it goes right on through!

Indeed, yes this is a different screen. I always cruise by that one too. But this, unfortunately, gives no options but to give your phone number and receive a text, or a call.

Google, acquiring all the most popular sites, and forcing them all together into one base... and identifying anyone who wants to use their service(s) badly enough. Just the NWO coming to the internet... we've seen it heading this way for a long time.

Give them a fake number
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9566370

You know what, I even have a 'fake phone' that I bought for just this purpose. However... I absolutely refuse to go through this step with this account, on principle alone. I'd rather never sign into YouTube again...

And let's face it, it's not like I ever signed in very often anymore anyway...

Everyone on YouTube has seen their views sink like a lead balloon...

There will be an alternative 'YouTube' brought into the spotlight soon... or maybe a single social networking site where all these things are combined (social networking, video uploading, pic hosting).

But I have no use for it... this is exactly why I purchased my own website, VPS, and threw FFMPEG on it so I could upload videos to my own fucking site... and not have to worry about bullshit YouTube censorship.

The last YouTube channel I made was a channel for my kitty... I put up a very adorable video immediately. The next morning the channel had been removed for "multiple copyright infringements" which was a total lie... there was absolutely nothing that could have been copyrighted.

Once in a while it asks you if you want to use your real full name and why not if you don't want to! Uh... no thanks?

Has this happened to any other admin/mods MO?.

I've been hearing of this happening to people setting up accounts from public wifi etc, but wtf, you've already got an established account.

I set up one a few weeks ago from a static ip and had only the "give a phone number for a text confirmation code.

So they got an off island prepay number and account was authorized.

If you have an Android phone, Google has your number. Not a big deal in my opinion. It's so your account isn't hacked and hijacked!

Clicking the 'learn more' link takes you here...

[link to support.google.com]

And so their only other 'option' is 'Password Recovery'...

Well let me just see...

How the fuck am I supposed to recover my password by submitting my email address WHEN THE EMAIL ADDRESS IS THE FUCKING YOUTUBE ACCOUNT NAME AND I HAVE TO LOG IN TO CHECK THE EMAIL???

Anyways.

Are you on a wifi and if so has anyone hacked it and are freeloading?.

Your computer could have a trojan and it needs a deep clean.

The "we have detected unusral activity" could be just an excuse.

I hope it's one of the above.

Re: I sign into my well used, very comfortable YouTube account...
Okay so from that link I pasted...

I did their stupid "give us another email address" thingy, then answered a few questions...

1. What is my password

2. When was the last time I was able to log into my account

3. When did I create my account

All my answers were right, but I kinda guessed the third one and still let me in...

Now I'm on a page where it's displaying "Account recovery options" and from here I can add a phone number, email addresses, etc.

And now I am also successfully logged into YouTube.

Interesting...

So this is how you get around giving them your phone number folks...

FOR NOW.

I know that with new YouTube/Google accounts it's now required to give your phone number upon registration page though.

So this is only helpful if you already have an existing YouTube/Google account.

Re: I sign into my well used, very comfortable YouTube account...
Eventually it will become impossible to get around giving them your phone number so they can get a good geographical hold on you...

But right now, as long as I can get back in with this method, I will still use the YouTube account...

As I said though... I rarely sign into it anymore, and rarely watch any of my subscriptions...

Google/YouTube did very well in taking attention off their site and all its contributors and putting in place the building blocks for a new, way more invasive paradigm.

Well I tried to close my You Tube account and they reinstated it back to me a few weeks later only with my real name as my username.
Yeah, like I’m really going to use that …or like they don’t know who I am anyway.

The only way I can get rid of it entirely is to delete that gmail address - which I need to do as soon I get some things taken care of.
Yeah , fuck You Tube, fuck Face Book, fuck gmail, fuck Google.
They are all following you around, peeping into your business and keeping loads of data on you.
Fuck them.
Fuckers!!
Oh and fuck Twitter too.
Just use You Tube to gather info - there is some good info there but never will I post anything on it – just fuck ‘em.

It means they watch what locations you sign in from (IP address) and if you are somewhere they compute is dramatically different from where you were last time you logged in, they can potentially sick this page on you.

For example... if I logged in tonight from Florida and then from Hong Kong tomorrow, it would probably happen again.

I'm sick of it too...

Just because I found a way to log back into that account by following some fine print off-handed shit doesn't mean I feel any better about it.

I actually deleted ALL of my Google accounts back in Jan. 2012...

This account was actually my "fake" account, but have been using it for almost a year.

It's the only Google account I still have, solely for use with YouTube.

Fucking disgusting the tracking they are putting in place online...

Facebook, don't even get me started with that. It's basically impossible to have a bogus account on Facebook now, unless you were grandfathered in...

Who the fuck would wanna use that sheeple ridden database of sloth anyway.

I sure the hell don't... once again as I said, it's much better to have your own site to host all your shit on to show off to your loved ones, rather than bending over and taking it in the ass in front of the whole world and undernet just so I can upload my dumbass pic to Facebook's servers.
