can you get haunted by a ghost or demon through a website?

There is this story there is a picture floating around of an actual, honest-to-goodness demon/demon possessed animal, and if you get the picture and save it to your hard drive, the demon will haunt you in your dreams forevermore and eventually drive you to insanity/suicide. It will only release its grasp on you if you make a deal with it to spread the word about the picture and get someone else to look at it and save it to their hard drive.

Now I don't believe in demons or anything, but I saw the picture and it was seriously unsettling even though some people say it's a photoshop. I didn't save it to my hard drive to find out, though.

I'm not going to name what kind of animal it is because then you might find it through google or whatever and I don't want anything to happen to anyone, real or not if you believe something bad is gonna happen strongly enough it will.

Almost every single one of these images on the internet is a fake photoshopped one by the way. There is one "true" original image out there and it was a bit harder to find, I had to go digging for it. It might be photoshopped as well, who knows, but it's the original that counts.

The odd thing is while looking through these images, I came across several fakes and while spooky they did nothing to me. But when I finally came across the "true" image some weird panic-attacky feeling rushed over me for a few seconds. And that was before I suspected it was the "true" image or read anything that claimed it was so I hadn't psyched myself out before hand or anything like that. There was something...bad about that image, a quality that the others didn't have.

And no, I didn't save it to my hard drive and I'm not posting the picture or giving people obvious means to locate it, so don't worry it's not haunting me and forcing me to "spread the word". I'm just posting this for informational purposes only, to answer the OP's question. And although the legend is 99.9% likely to be just a spooky tale, don't go digging around for such things just in case.

Sort of sounds like one I guess, but I think the whole spreading the word thing is just reason to spread the tale, a dramatic device kind of thing.

If you're able to dig up the legend, you'll find someone explain about it, and then toward the end there will be the implication that the poster or website owner spreading the tale fell victim to the demon, and he is sorry but...*BAM!* there's the picture. He just wants it to end so he is passing it along so the demon will leave him be.

It's certainly not a scam. It may have been someone seeing how far they could get their spooky story to circulate though. Also, the tale never claims that just looking at the picture will make the demon enter your dreams, so it's not like a chain letter where they say you're on the hook just for being made aware of it. You have to make the effort to save it to your hard drive first.
