I read something about the significance of what he wrote on the typewriter over and over. Can't remember now though. Ill have a look for it.

represents Nazi Germany, also represents US Government

on the typewriter, there is a scene where Jack writes "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"

this is representative of the guilt he had, and was expressing toward his wife, about his committment to US gvmt for the apollo contract. the wife connection is show thru Shelley Duvall's character in the scene
