I checked one of the Sea Lions and it was moderately radioactive. Do not know if it was enough to kill it though. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37168426 What was the reading? Quoting: Waterbug [link to www.nuclearcrimes.org] [snip] And what will happen in 5-6 years from now when it is estimated that the trillions of trillions of becquerels of radiation that were spewed and dumped at Fukushima Daiichi into the Pacific will reach North America's coastal waters? A study titled 'Model simulations on the long-term dispersal of 137Cs released into the Pacific Ocean off Fukushima' published in July 2012 indicated that large pockets of floating cesium-137 the area of many Western states will reach North America's coastal waters five years after the tsunami. By 2016 according to the study authors, the radiation levels in these pockets, which will sinisterly float eastward between the latitudes of southern California and southern British Columbia, Canada, could reach up to 1,000 times pre-Fukushima levels. I agree with Waterbug, time to move the timeline up. We are seeing more debris wash up here on the west coast. Quoting: Shane Pappas, manager of the Pantai Inn in La Jolla, said he was alerted when staff found the malnourished animal. "I got an email saying that we had a sea lion pup lounging on our patio," he said. He checked surveillance cameras, "and sure enough she waddled her way up to the patio," Pappas said, speaking after experts from San Diego's nearby SeaWorld park came to rescue the 27.5-pound female creature. The pup had apparently made its way from a nearby beach, "across the street, up the cobblestone driveway and onto a plush lounge chair in the hotel's open pavilion," he said. People killing and abusing other people upsets me but when innocent animals are hurt and killed then I'm ready to fucking go off on those responsible. If this is the start of the death of our oceans due to man kinds greed I've had it. it's time to find those responsible and hold them accountable for their actions. [link to www.google.com] I think partly what we are seeing is caused by multiple sources... not the least is Fuku contamination.. The radio-nuclides may not be killing the sea lions, per se.. but causing food source shortages.. leading to malnutrition. The dolphins pod up to feed. That large pod that was reported means that a lot of them are looking for food in a big way.. Normally they form small pods.. the large feeding pod was very unusual. When metals are released into the environment in higher than natural concentrations they can be highly toxic and cause major disruptions of aquatic ecosystems and decrease a waterbody's suitability for industrial and domestic uses. |

If it were radiation killing the mothers, the babies would be dead from it too, before the mother, or around the same time, wouldn't they? Is it perhaps the food supply has moved away, and the mothers leave the babies behind to follow the fish? |

Two of them even blew up! The containment vessel had cracks in it and the rods melted right through the bottom. Who knows how far down they went before they finally lost criticality and 'cooled' and stopped. The geology of Japan almost assures that they contamintated the ground water and much of it drained back into the ocean. Not to mention the water they were spraying night and day over it. Remeber those huge pools of radioactive water they dumped into the ocean because they ran out of containment space? Japan fucked up BIG TIME. It will take many more years to realise the full effects, but the signs are already starting to show for those who know where to look. |
