Breaking News: Heavy Equipment Accident at Arkansas Nuclear One, Reactor not Affected Update: We have death!
I am very close to this. From what I understand a steam turbine fell on top of workers while working an outage. There are reports of several injuries. Early reports from inside the facility say fatalities but its not being reported on MSM. We did hear the loud noise with this as well as our house briefly shake. Campers are leaving the area but I can't confirm if the outage company has been demobilized.

RUSSELLVILLE, AR- Pope County Authorities confirm that an accident has happened at Arkansas Nuclear One.

The reactor has not been affected.

At 8 a.m. this morning, witnesses report hearing a loud noise coming from an area where heavy equipment is being used to work on a generator.

The accident apparently happened in a turbine building, separate from the reactor.

There is no word yet on whether anyone has been injured.

Emergency workers are on the scene.

We have a crew on the way, and will have more information as it becomes available.

""There was a 12 ton piece of equipment suspended by a crane and there were people on it and under it. It fell and basically exploded and sent pieces everywhere. My dad and uncle were both in the room. They're ok.... But they saw a lot of people die. Dad is on the rescue team and did CPR on a 24 year old who ended up not making it.""

I've worked that nuke twice. Worst management I've ever seen on any job.
The turbine work would be a Siemens job.
Never could get on the turbine crew. I know one guy that always does and he's a pothead....
Sounds like they had a rigging failure, or major mistake in rigging.
Last time there they fukked us out of expense money, couple million bucks. $2000 to each of us. Doesn't surprise me they don't get the sharpest people.
I was fired for being "unproductive'. Bullshit, my own craft buiseness agent asked me about "black helicopters"
and 9-11 conspiracy shit, same day I was fired as I showed up for work......
Nukes don't like anti-gubmint shit discussed.
Sorry to hear about the injuries.
Anymore it's not how sharp or experienced you are to get a job, it's who you know or who you blow.

This is what I heard as well. I'm hearing different stories as to if it was a Crain or scissor lift. The equipment would belong to ANO and they would be in charge of inspections. If its a safety issue then someone's job is on the line.

Can you confirm if the outage team was demobilized? We are seeing a lot of RV's pulling out from where they frequently stay.

Update

RUSSELLVILLE — Entergy confirmed Sunday morning in a news release that one person was killed, and three others injured in an accident at Arkansas Nuclear One in Russellville.

The release states the accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. when a generator stator fell while being moved out of a turbine building.

"We are deeply saddened by what has happened today," Entergy executive vice president and chief nuclear officer said in the release. "Our greatest sympathy is with the family and friends of the employee who lost his life, and with those who sustained injuries.

"I also want to express my sorrow and support to all those who work at Arkansas Nuclear One. I know this is especially hard on them.”

The injured workers were transported to a local hospital, officials said.

Arkansas Nuclear One, powered by Entergy, opened its first unit Dec. 19, 1974. Unit 2 was opened six years later on March 26, 1980. According to the plant's website, both units combine to provide around 30 percent of the state's total energy demand.

The release states unit 1 is in a "refueling outage" and unit 2 automatically shut down. The plant is in an unusual event classification, which is the lowest of four emergency classifications designed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the release states.

Entergy officials say both units are in a "stable shutdown condition" and there is no danger to the public.

The very existence of a nuclear plant is a constant danger to the public..
Hence, the constant effort by the industry to tell the public that it isn't.

(CNN) -- An accident at a nuclear facility in Arkansas killed one person Sunday, the county coroner said.
The accident took place "in a non-radiation area, and there has been no risk to public health and safety identified," the Arkansas Department of Health said in a statement.
The facility is Arkansas Nuclear One, a water reactor in Russellville.
Pope County Coroner Leonard Krout said the victim was a 24-year-old man, Wade Walters, of Russellville.
Officials have not said how he was killed.

The main concern should be for the family and loved ones of the young man that lost his life. Also for those injured. Those of you that are trying to place blame need to shut your mouth. It was a catastrophic accident due to catastrophic failure. You don't know how far the stator traveled or how many elevations it fell or what it might have taken out on its way.
I have family and close friends that were there Sunday morning and unfortunatley one of them witnessed the accident. There is NO safety procedure for what happened Sunday.
I have worked at ANO, my husband was there for almost thirty years, my brother for over 30 yrs. It is one of the safest places anyone could be. Those of you that have no direct knowledge of the accident need to quit mouthing and start praying for those that are in pain due to this accident.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in any way.
