One of the units was already offline due to a planned outage. It is safety procedure to go offline when an accident of this magnitude occurs. There are all kinds of tests and checks that have to be done to make sure that is safe for the unit to be brought back online. Better to be safe than sorry. Right?

Forgot to mention in last post that the stator weighed well over 500 tons.

What is sad is tat it took the life of a 24 year old that had his entire life ahead of him. AC if you are close to the situation then you know that he was an avid rodeo roper.

Nuclear workers are the most brainwashed of all.
Ask a former worker with cancer how he feels about it..

Here's the straight poop, from a professional nuke who will discuss both the pros and the cons of this technology openly and honestly. Unit 1 was in a refueling outage, Unit 2 was operating at full power. A contract crane company's equipment was being used to remove the 500 ton (not 600 ton, not 12 ton) stator across the turbine floor to the truck bay and lower it down to the ground when something failed...crane, rigging...nobody knows just yet. 1 person lost his life, not "lots", though one is still too many. 8 were sent to the hospital and one of them remains there. Off-site power was lost to Unit 1 and its diesels came on to supply power. Unit 2 shutdown due to damage to a non-safety power supply that runs the reactor coolant pumps. Bet most of the people who read this don't know that reactor coolant pumps are not safety powered because they are not required for safety of the reactor. A little education goes a long way, but for some reason a little ignorance goes so much further. While I do not work at that plant, I do work at a plant not from from there, and have been a nuke for 35 years. Feel free to ask me any question you want about the technology, and you WILL get unbiased [email protected]

Your comments clearly show bias... makes you a liar, already.
Good job.

The following condition is being reported by Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2 (ANO-2) in accordance with 10CFR 50.72(b)(3)(ii)(B), ‘Unanalyzed Condition.’ Conservative engineering analysis has determined that the Spent Fuel Handling Machine (2H-3) is not qualified in a design basis earthquake event. Current seismic analysis is indicating a lack of margin for several structural parts of the machine.

This is a message sent from someone whose dad works there.

""There was a 12 ton piece of equipment suspended by a crane and there were people on it and under it. It fell and basically exploded and sent pieces everywhere. My dad and uncle were both in the room. They're ok.... But they saw a lot of people die. Dad is on the rescue team and did CPR on a 24 year old who ended up not making it.""
I will let you know when i hear more.
