For those who have not seen it, an very good chart showing the different kinds of seismic charts showing a harmonic tremor.

Hi, emerald eye !

Nice to see a post from you. As I recall, you live close by to these 'happenings' !

You STAY SAFE; your a great person for researching and coming up with USEFUL information, like that on ways to fight fallout from Fukashima in 2011.

Thanks Eagle#1,cheers

I live in Wyoming, so I always keep an eye on Yellowstone. I have been in the park when a low magnitude 3 went off, and I could barely feel it. Usually it has to be a swarm of these smaller sized quakes to get my attention.

Stay safe and happy Easter hf

I haven't posted much recently, I have been busy with my chickens, ducks, and turkeys. hayseed Getting about 40 eggs a day, so I have been making lots of homemade noodles. rolleyes I should do a thread on raising backyard poultry when I get time.

Yeah, but the magma is much closer to the surface now, and the land is now bulging. Big difference.

Re: BREAKING: 2.9 and 3.2 Yellowstone !
There was some kind of hydrothermal event at Yellowstone this last week around the Old Faithful geysers field, i was watching it live ...not Old Faithful but something off to the left in the trees starting shooting water under high pressure up in the air for hours...almost seemed like a crack of some kind..but i have heard nothing about it from USGS or nothing on the Yellowstone site about it...just readings from the sizemos..last week for a couple of days..Old Faithful area.

Was amazing to watch ...all that water just shooting up like bullets in the air.

Re: BREAKING: 2.9 and 3.2 Yellowstone !
They have a new magma intrusion making its way closer to the surface but not in Wyoming..in Montana.

The next big caldera or eruption of Yellowstone will be in Montana..you can tell by the new magma intrusion there and the continued uplift of that area.

The old caldera is still subsiding in most places but the place to watch is in Montana for the next super eruption ..around the Dillon area there..if it goes Butte, Montana will be destroyed for sure..along with Dillon..in fact..Dillon will probably be in the new caldera itself..

Hard to believe, but even way up here in Calgary we'd be in the danger zone.

:yellowstone:

Hopefully just a little belly rumble and not leading up to anything more serious... Scary thought with all the other volcanic activity kicking off globally.

Re: BREAKING: 2.9 and 3.2 Yellowstone !
Mostly when a vulcanologist talks about Yellowstone they talk about the caldera there...from the last big eruption..but Yellowstone has had many eruptions over the eons..starting from closer to the west coast and moving east north/east throughout its history..the next big eruption will most likely form a new caldera..and that caldera will be in Montana..where the ground is continuing to uplift and the magma is moving closer to the surface.

The Dillon, Montana area is the most likely new site for the next new super eruption. If you do some investigating on your own you can look at the Yellowstone site and see the GPS measurements of uplift in certain areas of the Park at the seismograph stations there. If you look you can see towards the north west of pinpointed stations, those closest to the present caldera ...those stations are still showing vertical uplift...thats what you have to watch out for the vertical uplift....also the new magma intrusions are coming up in those areas making that uplift..and Dillon, Montana gets a whole lot of smaller quakes all the time, it is because of the uplift and i don't even know if the residents know about this.

I think they, USGS, already know this but have been told to be quiet about it..not to scare anyone...but its true.

lol.. no, not the caldera. a caldera that size would probably turn earth into a comet through our solar system...

The map represents what areas would be affected should an eruption happen.

What effects is that measuring exactly? This is something that would effect the entire world, probably a good chunk of the continent wouldn't survive, and the rest of the population would succumb shortly after.

Again Phoenixe, remember what I said about Global Incident Map and RSOE duplicating the quakes...Here is a list of those quakes (4 quakes are listed):

Monday April 1 2013, 13:00:22 UTC 2 hours ago Long Valley area, California 1.2 7.3km Depth

Monday April 1 2013, 12:56:54 UTC 2 hours ago Long Valley area, California 1.0 7.1km Depth

Monday April 1 2013, 12:56:01 UTC 2 hours ago Long Valley area, California 1.0 6.1km Depth

Monday April 1 2013, 12:53:09 UTC 2 hours ago Long Valley area, California 1.5 6.8km Depth

Notice the 2 quakes I've bolded....The bottom one come in at 12:56:01 and the above one came in at 12:56:54

You see the time, they are the same quake but the depth was changed from 6.1 to 7.1 km...So, the bottom bolded quake is void as it was reviewed by a seismologist and then resent out with the correct information, being the depth in this case..

So, what looks like 4 quakes listed is really 3 quakes...but, saying that, the times are all very close together...I suspect that there may of been just 1 quake but the seismologists were having a hard time in determining the correct mag and depth, hence the reason why they may of updated it a number of times and this shows as being 4 quakes....

A good way of seeing the correct EQs from 0+ mags on USGS is by doing this...

Click this:
[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

Then on the left where it says "data feed", click "7 days All" in the drop down bar..This will refresh the data and then look at the list below the map..This will show all quakes, even one from 0 mag upwards...

On doing that myself, it appears there is a ongoing swarm in Mammoth Lakes, but they are all low magnitudes...Besides, areas like Mammoth Lakes, Yellowstone & Long Valley are always having low magnitude swarms due to them being Volcanic areas....Nothing to worry about yet. When they start reaching +3 mag in a swarm is when you should worry a bit and keep an eye on them...Until then, everything looks to be ok, for now.....
