Here are three books I found of value.

The Law by Bastiat. Very quick read, written in 1848 as a response to French socialists. Better and as appropriate or more so today than it was then.


The Creature from Jekyll Island by Griffin. The how and why of the federal reserve. It wasn't established for you or me.


Hologram of Liberty by Boston T Party/Kenneth Royce

How the constitution co opted the Articles of Confederation and led to the leviathan we have today. Also very readable.

I'm sure others will have better recommendations.

I've never read most of the books such as Behold a Pale Horse.

Mostly because I don't really need any evidence to see that the world is run by and for a relatively small group of people.

The internet is fast becoming just as controlled and worthless as TV.

I've been online hours a day since age 6, back in 97.
Literally most of my childhood memories center around the internet, I've seen in change, been there to experience.

What a strange era in history we're all participating in.


I really don't know what to do, I think I'm going to go to bed now.

What it is doing is decreasing the attention span from hours to very few seconds.

We did more thinking back in the day and contemplation.

The thoughts have become faster and the isolation higher.

The need for information has also increased and I believe this has affected our nervous system to one of anxiety and higher speed.

While we are much more aware and connected to information around the world, it has isolated real human contact more than ever before.

Were we go from here, I guess we will see. It might not be too good if it continues this way, unless something gives and we can somehow disconnect again to stay connected, know what I mean.

I am in older and did not get involved in the net until about age thirty.

and just like tv, walk away from it now and then and read a book, have an in person conversation, or just wander outside.

Internet reduces concentration dramatically, that I can say from sad experience

I'm as old as your grandparents. I noticed what internet was doing to younger family members, i.e., made them impatient, to begin with. They were so accustomed to everything being at the end of a click. Waiting for anything, even a two minute conversation was sufficient to make them irritable, dismissive

Made them anti-social to a degree and shrank their real life conversational skills. Real people in the flesh were also treated dismissively - they weren't considered as 'real' as virtual people

Internet appeared also to have a depressive influence

It's addictive, because it rewards for very little effort, whereas real life demands more than a click and 'lol'

Took more than 15 years, but some of those younger family members finally saw what effects internet had had and was having on their lives, attitudes and personality. Now those particular family members drag dozens of books home from the library. Internet is restricted mainly to youtube hobby content, because it is a great way to learn a craft with lots of tips from people with decades of experience in their field. But for relaxation and in order to restore previous good concentration levels, those family members are returning to books

Some people, maybe those who're more aware and self-aware seem now to be making the effort to get themselves and their lives back from internet

I've been thinking about getting rid of mine lately. I don't need to read another story to tell me politicians are corrupt or that the world is going to hell in a hand basket. I already know that.

So essentially I'm wasting my time here.

I've using the net since 1994, so, I almost can't remember what was it like before, just that I watched TV then and not now.

I've only had Internet for 3 years. Finally got a lap top and learned how to use it. I'm 50.

Been coming to Glp for a year. its changed me dramatically in alot of ways. Some good. Some not so good.

I am turning off my computor at the end of April. I got rid of my TV 5 years ago. I have never owned a cell phone.

You have no Idea how much you get done and how much your real Imagination comes back to you when you loose Technology.

I only came to Glp for the 2012 doom and to see what was going on out in the World cause I had a bad feeling. Now I feel bad all the time. I am done at the end of April. I think we are all done by then anyways.

When you feel like this it is meant to be an alarm in your head that says "go be by nature, and just sit."

Any nature will do, water/forest/jungle/desert, whatever you got, sit in the city park if you have to.

Might sound stupid but just try it and see. Give it at least one hour, but two or more is better. You might get an antsy boredom feeling at first, but that should be gone within 15 min.

This guy is right, you are (probably subconsciously) trying to re-connect with nature. Take a trip to your local state park and spend a day hiking or whatever. Bring some supplies though, better safe than sorry.

I get that feeling as well, but then I come across information, or music, that makes me very thankful for this medium...but yeah, I waste too much of my free time on it, mostly here...and I am lacking desperately in the free time category..
