Food Allergies and ADHD
My son has always had behaviors that the schools and doctors said was ADHD. He's not hyper, but insanely inattentive. I was pressured in to medicating him when he was younger, but the side effects were really bad, so after trying several types of drugs, I had enough. I took him off the pills and started homeschooling.

I've still had lots of issues with his inattentive behaviors, so after doing some research online, I had him tested for food allergies. It turns out that he's allergic to corn, wheat, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts. None of the allergies are severe, which is why he wasn't diagnosed earlier.

He hasn't eaten any of the food he's allergic to for 5 days, and I'm already seeing an improvement in his behavior. So why don't doctors test for this kind of thing in pediatric patients who present behavior issues? Why are pills the first treatment offered?

I think it's a pretty big conspiracy thay something as simple as an allergy can be misdiagnosed as a mental disorder that gets children placed on dangerous pharmaceuticals.

[link to mobile.nytimes.com]
"Sales of stimulants to treat A.D.H.D. have more than doubled to $9 billion in 2012 from $4 billion in 2007, according to the health care information company IMS Health."

How many of those kids have a hifden food allergy or some other medical condition that manifests with inattentive or hyperactive behavior?

Hi OP,

Here's something to consider as I have late-adult onset AADD (Adult ADD).

I wouldn't look to food allergies first. Break things into smaller parts instead. Instead of giving him a list of three things, give him one. Then two, etc.

One thing that helped me was putting things on colored paper to help organize my mind (red = important, yellow = steps, etc.)

I feel your pain.

His doctor gave him a blood test for antibodies to common food and environmental allergens. He tested positive for the foods I listed, as well as four common molds, dust mites, and dogs and cats.

I've done lots of behaviors modification techniques with him, but nothing was really helping much. He would just space out during a school assignment or other task. He was also fairly defiant, oppositional, and incredibly moody, in spite of consistent discipline. These behaviors are quickly disappearing on his new diet.

Rice, and breads made with other flours that aren't wheat, potatoes, those are carbs that he can have. But since he didn't test positive to eggs or milk he can have those.

I did spend $70 at Whole Foods for 2 bags of wheat free baking flour, rice bread, rice tortillas, and some wheat/soy free cookies. It was ridiculous!

Re: Food Allergies and ADHD
My son was highly "allergic" to breads and red food colorings. He could have one slice of any grain product a day, if he had half a sandwich, he could not have any pastas. The red food coloring was fun to deal with, I threw out so much food products...instant oatmeals, cereals, tomato based products...
I had him on the Feingold Diet and found several other food products in addition to flouescent lighting and perfume that I wore.
He became attentive, focused and easier to have him do things on his own without becoming agitated.
I also took him to an Iridologist ..which some doctors do not believe in and say there is no scientific evidence that it helps at all...But...she gave my some some licorce root which cleans out the toxins (wayyyy well), chronium, and valerian root which is a natural relaxant. The valerian root smells and taste awful and he only use it for a month until he was "de toxified" and able to relax on his own.

Recommend both ways of handling ADHD, Aspbergers and any other attentive disorder.
[link to www.feingold.org]
[link to iridologynow.sandycarter.com]

My son never became addicted or took any prescriptive medication, he is able to focus fully. As an adult he is taking a GNC product that is helping him retain focus.
Sam.E and also focus fast.
I highly recommend that people go the natural way and avoid the dependency, behavior management program that most schools will strongly suggest and implement.
