If they did that, would it take out all electronics across the entire USA, or just a small area? Anyone know?
 Quoting: Lisa*Lisa

I know.

I've been studying EMPs for 20 years.

It would destroy the grid, mainly, and communications stuff, especially stuff like cell towers and readio stations.

As I've said in the past, if you're worried about it blowing your microwave oven or your clock radio, it won't be the EMP that you have to worry about, it will be the blast.

In reality, though, a high altitude nuclear blast has never been proven to do what they say it will. Its a theory. They've seen it do stuff at lower altitudes but never at high enough altitudes to wipe out, say, the eastern seaboard.

*MY* theory is that is mostly bunk. Sure, they could fly one over NYC and get the grid to take a dump but the whole country? I don't think so. The eastern seaboard? Maybe. Until someone tries it, who knows.

Its all just theories much like vaccines and mercuric adjuvants and the unintended consequences of printing money. They *SAY* they know but they *DO* *NOT* *KNOW*. Your leaders have been getting support (as with the scientific community) by putting forth theories as fact for years. They've been lying.

Live your live. Have a few guns to protect yourself. Have a supply of extra food and water. Be out of the city. You don't have to call yourself a prepper to have good common sense.

If anything happens, the cities will become the biggest shitholes. Get out. Stay out.

and look the OTHER way to find whats really going on.

Actually it's quite the opposite. See what MSNBC says (if anything at all) then go to WND....then check the WND sources. I wish you dumbasses would read more.

Nothing is gonna happen ! Nothing EVER Happens when it envolves NK!
Why do you ppl still believe in this kind of shit? Do you really think korea is stupid enough to sacrifice its pseudo kingdom and sovereignty just so it can nuke any country???

first: north korea would never nuke south korea, their objectie is to Unify korea, not destroy half of it.
second: north korea would never nuke any other country, because thats total suicide.

Conventional war is possible, but very very unlikely!

Stop inventing shit... They will not NUKE or EMP anybody! Be Rational.

Government loves to be in control, people need a government in control (though many disagree, w/e).

Instead, if the people felt it was a man-made problem, then the illusion of government remaining in control is the result.

It's funny, when NK launched a satellite the media calls it a "Ballistic Missile Test". When (if) they launch the same missile with a warhead attached, they're using a "Space Launch Vehicle".

Most probably not. If you are close enough for the EMP to destroy, for instance, a transistor radio, you would be dead from the blast. The EMP would be meaningless.

If, however, that transistor radio is attached to an external antenna, its very possible that the "Electron Jump" will toast the RF portion of the radio, rendering it useless. Will it "smoke" the radio? No.

One thing people need to understand is that most everything is heavily sheilded anyways. Nearly every thing we use runs at RF frequencies from 500 khz to several thousand mhz. The processors and such emit a huge amount of RF noise. So, we shield those devices to keep the RF (or RFI - Radio Frequencie Internference) from getting out. Guess what? That same shielding will keep the EMP out of your device (unless its connected to something like the power lines or an external antenna or phone line). However, even if the RFI shield was not there, the EMP still would not be sufficient to "blow" anything. There is no way for it to radiate enough power to break anything. It needs "antennae" to radiate and a lot more lenght into the environment than the little telescoping antenna on the back of your FM radio.

But, think of this: even in an EMP blows 5% of the long line transmission transformers, those are like "1 off" units that take something like 18 months to replace and they are so expensive they only keep a very few of them on hand. Now, I do understand that thos hi-line transmission transformers have build in protection for CMEs (Coronal Mass Ejections - blasts from the sun) but a CME is a progressive wave in that it comes in a build up, increases to a point and then tapers off. A nuclear EMP is a massive, single, gargantuan spike lasting only milliseconds. The CME protection in those one off, 18 months to replace transformers WILL NOT BLOW IN TIME. Those transformers will be like a bomb. The instant heat building from the gargantuan spike coming into it and arcing to ground will cause heat to build up beyond measureable levels. KA-BOOM! Even if 100 out of several thousand blow, it will cause an imbalance in the grid. Think of the Northeast USA a few years ago when the imbalance causeed the generation facililites to shut down for 3 or 4 days during the summer then multiply it by 1000x.

No, it doesn't have to blow your transistor radio. All of us that have generation capactity will be find for a while with some fuel rationing. But, the bulk of the cities will be dark and the evil element of society will take over. Cities are shitholes when the lights are on. Turn the lights of and they are 1000 times worse. Better have a gun and plenty of ammo. The evil elements of our society will simply go wild and if you don't have a way to protect yourself, well, you'll be dead.

Thats a credible theory. In other words, the sun knocking ou tthe grid would show governments ineptitude (or just complete lack of capability) of protecting us. So, rather, we have a man made disaster that would just look like they made a "mistake" with the ability to correct it next time and still seem powerful.

I think you give government too much credit. I think its more like they want to to be fearful of another state so that you can beg them for servitude in trade for protection. Its a similar game with all the same game pieces, just arranged differently on the board.

Re: U.S. on alert for nuclear blast overhead
For once WND isn't full of shit. Press can reassure all they want, but this isn't the Manhattan project, they can draw from other countries nuclear knowledge.

The giant floating golf ball along with guided missile cruisers are now stationed off NK. Someone in DC isn't dismissing NKs missile threat like the press is.

On the other hand an EMP burst would be the least loss of life of any attack. Its not going to blow every power system, in many cases its just going to trip breakers. Unlike the cold war most long distance communication is now fiber, it will have no effect on that. We are looking at something less than Sandy when it comes to power loss. Not minor but not the end of civilization by far.
 Quoting: Fred 1081195

This is a huge assumption that heavily depends on where and what type of EMP device used. You state a best case scenario where some minor systems fail and are brought back up with little issue.

If even a portion of the nations power grid, say 1/4, fails in the right location, it will be just days before the nuclear plants in the area start to fail and melt down. Every story or scenario that bases a widespread power outage on a "everyone starts fending for themselves, militias start forming, and small governments pop up all over for years of rebuilding" are nothing more than myths that can't happen. The nuclear fallout that would come from every plant in the U.S. going offline in even the same week with no ability to cool it's reactors after a few days or weeks means the u.s. mainland becomes a radioactive wasteland for 1000 years.

No one seems to ever care about this though...

Good point. That is the real horror story here.

You will look onto the sky and you will see a nuke go off over head.

You will die instantly.
 Quoting: Astral Goat

Pure crap! Nukes detonated high in the altitude will do nothing to anybody on the surface, physically. The USAF proved this in tests in the 1950's. Do your research!
Little Dear Leader already realizes if he pulls this card then it's the end game. He will not survive. Survival is a great stimulus and, in this case, a great deterrent!

They don't want nuclear fall out. They just want the grid taken down so that they can invade.

A terrestrial invasion of America from NK is as probable as a Malta invasion of entire Europe... Really, how can exist so moron ppl to believe a little country could try a terrestrial invasion of a very large country in the other side of an ocean...

Maybe this is why.

Re: U.S. on alert for nuclear blast overhead
If they did that, would it take out all electronics across the entire USA, or just a small area? Anyone know?
 Quoting: Lisa*Lisa

Lisa, from what I've read about EMP's, it sort of depends upon how high up they are detonated. And the NK satellite is high enough that it would be effective to knock out a good portion of the Country. Wish one of the "AstroGuys" would come on this thread and give us all the science behind EMP's, what they'd mess up, their radius of destruction, etc.

Then, after you're totally freaked out about EMP's, look up "neutron bombs". THOSE nasty little things can vaporize all the meat puppets (i.e., US!) and not damage any of the infrastructure (buildings, bridges, roads, etc.). Then the Bad Guys could just march right in and it would be a relatively smooth transition with not a lot of clean-up.

The technology IS out there. And a good magician uses misdirection to get you to pay attention to one hand while the other hand is doing something entirely different.

It would not be advantageous for NK to put all of their eggs in one basket.

wnd s as false as a crow wearing a wig.

read whatever wnd s telling
and look the OTHER way to find whats really going on.
 Quoting: lone 1644220

Actually it's quite the opposite. See what MSNBC says (if anything at all) then go to WND....then check the WND sources. I wish you dumbasses would read more.
 Quoting: Chip

I've found a lot of similarities between WND and GLP. Both sites have their contributors who post things in real time, as well as those who provide their editorial opinions on the current news situations. Both sites have their loyal readers who post frequently and have developed a sort of "family". Both sites show a healthy skepticism when it comes to believing anything coming from the Gubb'mint spin machine.

In fact, it would not be surprising to discover that some posters here read and post over at WND too! bump
