In a nutshell, Iodine is very scarce in the western diet; but it is needed by all of our glands including mammary glands. When absent the other halides (prevalent environmental toxins Fluoride and Bromide) replace Iodine in the tissue. When Iodine is supplemented it kicks out the other halides and has an alkalizing, anti-cancer effect.

In the last 40 years Iodine was replaced in commercial bread with Bromine. Bromine has no physiological use. There was a coincidental rise in breast cancer, in direct correlation to the removal of iodine from bread.

Regarding table salt, the iodizing of salt was intended to prevent goiter, especially in parts of the country where the soil was depleted of iodine, e.g. the Great Lakes area. The iodine added to table salt is nowhere near the amount your glands need to function properly. It barely staves off goiter.
