NORTH Korea says it intends to restart a nuclear reactor closed in 2007 and hinted it may begin openly enriching weapons-grade uranium, at a time of soaring military tensions.

A nuclear energy spokesman said the move would involve “readjusting and restarting” all the facilities at the North's main Yongbyon nuclear complex, including a uranium enrichment plant and a five megawatt reactor.

Will this lead to more sanctions? If so, the only thing North Korea hasn't yet done apart from invade is shut down the Kaesong Industrial Complex.

I'd say that's the next step.

It would take about 1 year of restarted operations at the reactor before #DPRK could extract enough Pu to make 1 more nuclear bomb.

Steve Herman ‏@W7VOA 1h

To get plant fully functional #DPRK will need to build a new cooling tower, replacing the one it destroyed in 2008 as part of 6-way accord.

Steve Herman ‏@W7VOA 1h

It should be noted that the 5mw Yongbyon reactor was the only known source of plutonium for the #DPRK atomic weapons program.

Why would they blow up the cooling? Reactors take years to cool to a proper level after they have been deactivated.. I call

ummm..thats not my claim thats well known. They shut down the reactor in 2007 and demolished the cooling tower in 2008. The implosion was witnessed by a number of international journalists and diplomats, so this is not MY CLAIM. You should inform yourself first before you call BS on something.

It's obvious what's going on here, NK is trying sooo hard to provoke America to launch a first strike so they can be the innocent Koreans getting picked on by the big bully, to justify a SK invasion + try to win Chinese support.

If you're all thinking this is bad just wait 'til Pakistan is completely taken over by extremists. They won't hesitate to push the button and they currently have 100+ warheads.
