If it were not a "big deal" the WHO, the CDC, and scientists world wide would not be scrambling right now to contain it, learn about it, find anti-biotics to combat it etc...
 Quoting: Wash

My god man hahaha! Did you learn nothing at all from 2009?

The WHO and the CDC are the last freaking people you should be listening to, the WHO has been caught talking BS twice now with the first been the great and fake SARS and then the fake H1N1 pandemic.

If H7N9 starts flowing through the global population you'll be singing a different tune my friend.
 Quoting: Wash

Influenza is the last thing I worry about and that includes H5N1 and this new one its all about the fear.

But H7N9 is not flowing through the population what so ever so why are you all listening to the media who seem to love to put the fear of flu in people.
 Quoting: Fhirinne

All pandemics start small. And there are strains of influenza that you really would be well advised to worry about.

The Spanish flu epidemic of 1918-19 killed more Americans in one year than World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War COMBINED. It killed more people worldwide than died in the Black Plague. It killed 50-100 million people and that was in the days before intercontinental air transportation made worldwide spread of disease possible within 24 hours.

By all means enjoy your life but don't put down the people who are trying to pay attention to early warning signs. Some of us are designed to be on the watchtower.

Another thing people may not have thought about...even if they don't "catch" a particular flu, a pandemic would caue widespread havoc as truck deliveries stop, no food in the grocery stores, no gas at the gas station, public utilities go offline, etc. Medical emergencies like heart attack, childbirth, trauma, would have to be handled in your own home as hospitals would be overwhelmed. Looting and roving gangs would not be far behind. I'm prepped to the gills and have a rural bug out several hours from the city, in case of anything.

Don't get me wrong I know pandemics start small.

But the world has moved on a great deal hygiene wise since 1918 plus back then you had world war 1 taking place.

And I don't mean to put people down who are trying to pay attention but the point I am trying to make in all this is for a conspiracy board people seem to take the bait and run with it. There is a lot of media play on this one already and only under 30 cases so far.

Is it only a few that see's this as somewhat suspicious?

Taiwan, China won't cooperate on H7N9 vaccine: official

TAIPEI -- Taiwan will not work with China on the development of a vaccine against the H7N9 avian flu virus, but rather will try to do so on its own, Taiwan's Deputy Health Minister Lin Tzou-yien said yesterday.
Taiwan's government has assembled a task force to work on an H7N9 vaccine and will convene a meeting with domestic manufacturers April 12 to discuss mass production of the vaccine, Lin said after a meeting of the Central Epidemic Command Center earlier in the day.

There will be no cooperation with China in the effort to develop and manufacture the vaccine, he said.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36972951

It's not just the flu, it's an animal flu.

Flu looks for throat cells to reproduce themselves.
Animal flu goes to the lungs to reproduce creating a cytokine flood that drowns the patient.

Flu goes to the lungs when a person is old or unhealthy.

Animal flu kills the younger and healthier person because they quickly produce cytokines, as they should, but are healthier and able to produce more, which causes them to drown basically.

Quicker decline and harder to combat before the patient is dead.

Not the same as flu
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32408217

Also, Avian flu in humans has a 90 something% kill rate. Fortunately, only a few cases of human-to-human transmission has occurred. Yet. That's the fear.

We went from 4 cases to 28 cases in that week.
It is still a virus that is very much a mystery. No one even knows how people are getting it.

1 week. We multiplied the cases by 7. If the same happens this week we'll have 196 cases next Tuesday with aprox 65 deaths. If that happens the shit will officially be heading towards the fan.

Is China Covering Up an Outbreak of the Bird Flu?

This bird flu outbreak might just be a lot worse than China is letting on—and it wouldn't be the first time the country's health officials have "covered up" a major disease threat. "The 83-year-old victim, from the eastern province of Jiangsu, was admitted to hospital with a fever on March 20 and confirmed as having H7N9 on April 2," reports Reuters, gleaning information from China's state-run Xinhua newspaper. The first spate of human occurrences of H7N9 was first announced by China around April 2—but that timeframe is actually around two to three months after the first two bird flu victims got sick... meaning that H7N9 has actually been around since February.

H7N9 death toll rises as 'family clusters' probed
The World Health Organization said yesterday that it was looking into two suspected "family clusters" of people in China who may be infected, potentially the first evidence of human-to-human spread.

The new virus is severe in most humans, leading to fears that if it becomes easily transmissible, it could cause a deadly influenza pandemic.
