MERS CoV 1352 Cases, 479 deaths Not good at all!! Quoting: Sul-Americano 1063827 Recombinomics site says media reports describe a Shangai cluster as well of multiple additional reports of lab confirmed cases. The arge number of cases and the presence of key genetic markers (subclades never seen in H5N1 before) associated with human adaptation raises serious pandemic concerns. [link to www.recombinomics.com] This has potential to be really bad. If it starts showing up in North America I might have to bug out for a bit. Can't have my family exposed to something so deadly. |

MERS CoV 1352 Cases, 479 deaths No kidding. All of those carcasses thrown into the water surely have/ will create their own biological concerns - and I don't see it just going away. Even if they tried to spray/ treat the area for any sort of biologicals going on, that doesn't account for the already-contaminated water that has been flowing downstream, and any such agent used would also adversely affect the same area. If the Chinese have a strong immune system and shun the anti-bacterial stuff this could be why this illness has not spread like wild fire. IMO many Americans could NOT fight off a true illness because they have been using all the anti bacterial stuff and have weakened their immunity. We are a very clean society and are germ scared thus have done damage to our immune system. Look at how the flu shut down schools and businesses. Hospitals were setting up tents. But 3 (and likely more) with no live bird contact? WTF? I lived in Nanjing until recently. If you go on the buses you'll come into contact with live birds regularly - people carry chickens in carrier bags. Very cute, and hopefully that explains the cases. Hopefully. I really hope this doesn't turn nasty... it's a beautiful city that has suffered enough in the past (used to be called Nanking, if that rings any bells). |

MERS CoV 1352 Cases, 479 deaths “Wash your hands, and cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing,” was the advice published in the Oriental Morning Post, Shanghai’s most popular newspaper (and repeated in others). “And avoid eating or contact with dead and diseased livestock.” That last directive might be a little tricky to fulfill. Since early March, Shanghai’s waterways have been clogged by dead pigs -- officially at least 11,000 of them but likely a lot more. Many of those pigs have found their way into tributaries that feed directly into the municipal water supply. Thus, in theory, every Shanghai resident who comes into contact with the city’s water is potentially compromised. Are Floating Pigs Behind China’s Avian Flu? [link to www.bloomberg.com] |
