Yeah, great find regarding those pigs.
Completely disregarded that...

Fuck. This is major doo-doo. Wouldn't it be ironic, after the media beat the virus-story like a dead horse over these past few years, that the public was being distracted with nonsense over North Korea?

When the ebola virus broke out for the first time, it only made a few dozens of victims. The media attention at that point was too high considered the ammount of casualties.

When it broke out a second time, thousands upon thousands were dying of it. But all media attention was gone and nobody gave a flying fuck, because the media considered it of less news value than the orchestrated wars in Yugoslavia.

These are sad times, where people have to sift through all the incompetence of journalists and filter out the lies, drama, marketing and horseshit.

I'm sick of this world.

This is what happens when you work in a giant chicken farm 15 hours a day 7 days a week. Just a matter of time, reminds me of the storys of how flue of 1918 which killed 1 out of every 4 people on the planet was rumored to be created by the U.S. Army by taking prisoners and putting them on rail cars full of sick chickens from California to an army base in Ohio I think it was.

This would be the worst case senerio.

New Bird Flu Seen Having Some Markers of Airborne Killer
The new bird influenza that’s killed six people in eastern China has some of the genetic hallmarks of an easily transmissible virus, according to the scientist who showed how H5N1 avian flu could become airborne.

“That’s certainly not good news,” said Fouchier, who reviewed a gene sequencing of H7N9 published by Chinese health authorities. “This virus really doesn’t look like a bird virus anymore; it looks like a mammalian virus.”

“This virus is certainly of more concern than the vast majority of bird flu viruses,” Fouchier said. “Most bird flu viruses that we know do not have these mutations

A handful of cases out of a population of over 1 billion.

4 year old infected with H7N9 bird flu has 'basically recovered'

A Shanghai child who was infected with the H7N9 flu has pretty much gotten better, according to a decently cheery report from Shanghai's Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Eleven cases of H7N9 have been reported in Shanghai: five people have died, five are still being treated, and this lucky four year old has recovered

Another thing people may not have thought about...even if they don't "catch" a particular flu, a pandemic would caue widespread havoc as truck deliveries stop, no food in the grocery stores, no gas at the gas station, public utilities go offline, etc. Medical emergencies like heart attack, childbirth, trauma, would have to be handled in your own home as hospitals would be overwhelmed. Looting and roving gangs would not be far behind. I'm prepped to the gills and have a rural bug out several hours from the city, in case of anything.

I'm preped similarly with a very out of the way cabin.
I'll be prepping the garden at that location next weekend.

Being away from people might not help though if birds spread the virus.

Taiwan, China won't cooperate on H7N9 vaccine: official

TAIPEI -- Taiwan will not work with China on the development of a vaccine against the H7N9 avian flu virus, but rather will try to do so on its own, Taiwan's Deputy Health Minister Lin Tzou-yien said yesterday.
Taiwan's government has assembled a task force to work on an H7N9 vaccine and will convene a meeting with domestic manufacturers April 12 to discuss mass production of the vaccine, Lin said after a meeting of the Central Epidemic Command Center earlier in the day.

There will be no cooperation with China in the effort to develop and manufacture the vaccine, he said.

lol, its just the flu man, but go ahead and run to the doctors for your hit of monkey spunk and toxic chemicals,
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36972951

It's not just the flu, it's an animal flu.

Flu looks for throat cells to reproduce themselves.
Animal flu goes to the lungs to reproduce creating a cytokine flood that drowns the patient.

Flu goes to the lungs when a person is old or unhealthy.

Animal flu kills the younger and healthier person because they quickly produce cytokines, as they should, but are healthier and able to produce more, which causes them to drown basically.

Quicker decline and harder to combat before the patient is dead.

Not the same as flu
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32408217

Also, Avian flu in humans has a 90 something% kill rate. Fortunately, only a few cases of human-to-human transmission has occurred. Yet. That's the fear.
 Quoting: jpop

wow slow down there hehe

fatality rate of 50% but that might not really be the truth after all "Meta-analysis shows that 1 to 2% of more than 12,500 study participants from 20 studies had seroevidence for prior H5N1 infection."
