Why now, we've been having trouble with them since the 1950's, but all the sudden every action movie released has a North Korean bad guy?!?!? Go figure... Kindof like before Iraq every movie bad guy was an Arab... DUHHHUM User ID: 33172024 United States 04/02/2013 08:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Quran 8:12- Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite them above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them." Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith - 7.88: The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with 'Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death). |

I am sure they anticipated ROK and US to take them serious enough to postpone their annual war games. When i was there they called it purple haze or something like that, although i believe it has a new name every year. I could see NK doing this to increase the tone of their threats. We dont know enough about the new boss but he is awful young and probably hungry to get out of dads shadow. So lets just hope they are stomping their feet and crying instead of anything much more dangerous for all of us. |

I suspect in a few weeks everyone will pack up their toys and we'll move on to the next crisis. I'm thinkin' some Iran/Israel tomfoolery! |

All it would take is one itchy trigger finger from some buck private on either side to set this whole thing off. The way emotions are all ramped up, someone could just go out of control and set off a rocket launcher, artillery piece, mortar, whatever. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27688795 United States 04/02/2013 10:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I betting on this being a less exciting version of the Cuban Missile Crisis. "Communists" challenge American authority with the threat of nuclear war and the United States chooses to not back down. After all is said and nothing happens, the current administration will be lauded as the ones who pulled us back from the brink while remaining firm with our "bitter enemies." Obama will enjoy good poll numbers if he keeps troop deployment strong, not overwhelming, and conflict down. Think about it guys, that's something all of us conspiracy nut jobs can really sink our teeth into. With his social reforms and the peaceful resolution of this situation Barack will be hyped as JFK and FDR all rolled into one. What better position could he possibly be in? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33985461 Australia 04/02/2013 11:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The way the war starts: Preemptive U.S & South Korean air strikes on forward artillery positions along the DMZ to remove the threat to Seoul. Then targeted Tomohawk cruise missile strikes against communications/radar facilities inside North Korea, also forward command bases. B-52s will target tunnel networks, and bunker busters are likely to be used here to a great extent. The submarine threat will be dealt with very early too. I think a lot of anti-submarine warfare from the air will occur once the U.S and South Korea establish air superiority. At sea and in the air the U.S and South Korea will quickly gain the edge. Where North Korea will prove the biggest threat is once hundreds of thousands of troops / special forces pour over the border backed by tanks and short-to-medium-range artillery units. Depending on how North Korea's air defences are, the war could be won in a few months if enough air and sea power is concentrated off North Korea. As long as China isn't spooked too much the West should have free reign. If China DOES get spooked by all the military hardware on their borders and off their coast, they'll probably deploy a substantial force of their own. As long as there are no dire miscalculations, the war should be over by July or August. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 36044026 United States 04/02/2013 11:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have posted here several times before regarding military and intel issues. My previous career was in intel, though I cannot go further than that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35551657 Needless to say, I have connections well entrenched in the intel establishment, and I reached out to a few in the last day to see if there was anything new on the NK situation they could tell me. Basically in the last 12-18 hours, NK troops have started moving to prepositioned forward battle locations. Most ominously is that hundreds of fuel trucks, ordinance trucks and related support vehicles have been spotted racing south towards the DMZ in about 8 separate columns. This is all I know now, but you can draw your conclusions from this.... |
