There must be a lot of folks. My great grandmother pretty much raised me since both of my parents worked. She was born in 1902 and is obviously gone now. I'm younger than 40. I would think someone in their 50's or 60's most likely knew someone from the 1890's at least...probably 80's.

She died when I was 15.

She was 102 when she died.

She was born in 1882.

She was sharp as a knife mentally..and the stories she used to tell me.

In 1980 when I was 16, my great uncle was 96. He was born in 1884. His father fought in the civil war. I have actually heard second hand civil war stories.

This is a neat thread...brings back good memories.

My grandmother was born in 1894 and died in 1992. She passed away just after her 97th Birthday.

I have a friend in Beverly Hills, and his Grandfather is now 105 years old - and of course he was born in the early 1900's.

Given human lifespan, there are very few people now living that were born in the 1800's. You would have to be over 114 years old and there are damned few of those walking around today.

Just read somewhere earlier today that the oldest living American recently died...He, or she, was 113.

Edit: Found the story. Elsie Thompson...She was born in 1899. Passed away about a week ago.

My Grandmother on my Mother's side fits your post nicely.

Born 1889 "Nellie"

related to "Smith" of "Smith & Vanderbilt"

many good stories were shared during her life

she passed in the 70/s... in her 80's...

I still have some war memorabilia from her private collection

owned by her "Uncle Roy".

She has great roots in the history of America. For example, one of her relatives headed up the Louis & Clark expedition to Alaska.

Oddly enough, one of her relatives was a passenger aboard the Titanic when the ship went down. I will withhold the name out of respect for their privacy.

You will find that your thread will get the attention you are looking for I believe.

Good Luck

The Cootess' grandfather was born in 1888. He died in 1992 at age 104 1/2. Mind still very sharp. His family settled parts of Colorado. He remembered as a very young boy being alone on the plains with his four brothers and their cattle ranch.

My great grandfather was born in 1892 and died at the age of 103. He would tell stories about life on the farm, driving to New Mexico in a model T with no paved roads, to homestead. They only stayed a few years. When he was a teenager he had surgery..on the kitchen floor! His mother had called the doc who removed his appendix with no anethstesia only a bottle of rye. He didn't have electricity in their home until he was in his 20's and got his first TV when he was 55. It really makes you put into perspective the amount of change the world can go through in one century!

My grandfather was born in 1893. When he was born there were still a few people alive who were borm in the 1700's

He died in 1983. Think of all the changes that happened in his life time. Some good some not so good.

This bring back wonderful memories!

My Grandmother was born in 1894 and her Sister 1874. They were witty, clever women who taught me much about life.

My Grandfather was 102 (or older) when he died in 1969. American Indians didn't have accurate birth records. So, he may have been born in 1867?

Sometimes I wonder what these family members would think of today's society & world...
