There is no perfect vacuum in the universe, and where there is baryonic matter, there is light. Some of it may be too low frequency for our eyes to see, but most of "space" is filled with luminous clouds of gas, and illuminated clouds of dust.

As well as with stars, planets, smaller bodies.




Okay...one exception; light falls on a black hole, but nothing within the schwartzsheild radius ever goes where eyes in this universe can see it again.

But remember, as much as I respect Newton, I don't think he really meant Gravity to be used the way NASA has done. He was just trying figure out a way to explain the magnetism.

By the way... Back in antiquity, before the spread of christianity, there were actually a couple civilizations that figured out the size of the sun and the earth to a fairly surprising degree of accuracy. The ancient Greeks did it using trigonometry, the naked eye, and some measuring devices like rulers and protractors.

How exactly are they using gravity? I don't think you understand what gravity is. Gravity as described by newton is the force that accelerates any matter towards matter which is proportional to its mass, and inversely proportional to the distance.

Gravity is a very weak force. The earth is 85,337,142,857,142,857,142,857 times more massive than you are (yes, the earth has that many times more mass than the average male), and yet you can still easily jump off its surface, or fly in an airplane simply by the force of the air pushing up on the wings as it moves through it. The sun has 333,000 times the mass of the earth, and we are not being crushed into it.

Thank you for that memory. Yes, their model is closer to the truth than what we have now. Just so you know, my history is about 5980 years old, not restricted to NASA alone.

The strongest force in my opinion is Love (oh, not the one that they show in the movie!)
