Re: Alan Watts On Buddhism
alan watts took a religion to them and whitewashed it into some kinda new agey philosophy for those in the USA open to his BS.

Thank God i put these PoS worthless toys (like the way of zen) behind me years ago. i would suggest others do the same. these type of men and women peddle lies, like "snake oil salesmen" of the past.

there is NO enlightenment gained by following the 8 fold path or doing daily meditation. PC CRAP.

and damn it sure feels good to say fuck again whenever the fuck i fucking want to say fuck.

Re: Alan Watts On Buddhism
ffs - buddhism is considered a religion and buddha their god to asian people. why do you think there are monks and temples and if you eat in an asian restaurant (i do not anymore) they will have their little "shrine" up with a buddha statue and daily / food drink offerings. these people even have their businesses "blessed" by one of their own monks or whatever here in the USA.

i miss mango and sticky rice but not enough to have it blessed over / whatever by some asians. no thanks. learn to make it at home....
 Quoting: m&m's

Buddhism is not a religion. Buddhism has no god. technically, you are your own god. because you are the only one who has "control" over yourself.

but what is control?

its a way of life. you dont have to be Buddhist to be Buddhist. everyone is everything.

lot of shills on this one.

i'm serious as fuck all....most of the time....and when i'm not, i'm not. that fuckity fuck e-card is funny. of course, once the curse words re-entered my vocabulary people started to complain....now there is no one who i fucking care about enough to stop / temper it.....so f-bombs away when i feel like it.

when i posted last, i reminded myself of this scene from office space with "still" by the geto boys in the background. idk wtf is up with the stuff after it bc i don't watch tv / family guy. presenting the entire scene would have been better (incl. the dialogue in the car)
but best i can find on my phone:

dude seriously, you need to take a breath. your anger is not healthy.

ironically, this was a super zen thread and you had to bring some toxicity into it. not good, girl. you're going to end up with an aneurism. i'm not trying to be funny, just telling you to slow it down, girl. life is too short!
 Quoting: eekers

this scene is bust a gut funny. maybe not in your way, just as what you see as toxicity i do not....apparently our world views are worlds apart...no doubt.

have you read watt's book i mentioned then? ever ask real buddhists from asia what they think of westernized "buddhism." ever known a thai family with a son who was doing his time in a REAL monastery, as in thailand not whatever poses for these western forms / places here?

granted plenty of asians will just smile and agree with whatever you say, and behind your back think (or laugh)....stupid whitey / blackey (whichever is the case). .....just so you know an' all.

it really doesnt matter. none of it matters. thats the point. were talking about a philosiphy. nobody ever said they believed anything. and that whole laughing behind your back and racist shit is exactly why the world is the way it is. and im pretty sure a true Buddhist would be humored looking at what your trying to say about them.

do you know what they believe? do you know they were true to their words?

everybody has their own opinions. fuck it. just be happy your alive and have the freedom to express yourself. just dont bring anyone down and try to tell them what is "right" you wont get very far.

Thank you CH, Alan Watts + Good Music was great!

GLP Christian, were you serious in mocking a works-based entrance to heaven?
Does it really make more sense to you that one could rape, murder or mame and then by simply stuttering a few magic words, be 'saved' and welcomed into heaven?

office space happens to be one of my favorite movies. heck, i even interviewed Ron Livingston! besides the point. i have read lots of Alan Watts' stuff, on buddhism AND Taoism. we kinda have to do that when you're in religious studies. and by the way, I have had one on one contact with buddhist monks. Also met the Dalai Lama. (the head of our religious studies dept knows him personally-- look him up.. dr. katz) anyways, The point is that you are being extremely argumentative and hateful for such a zen thread. That is all. you need to chill out and not be so negative. you tend to ruin the vibe in every thread you hit. I'm just saying this bc a few weeks ago you didn't seem so hateful. maybe you got comfortable and started being yourself, who knows. the point is that it is possible to engage in a discussion without so much hate.

did you like all the beheadings for lack of discipline?

anyway, these are FALSE paths. i am stating my opinion. if someone disagrees with me i don't jump on them (unless muslim) or say they are being too serious or negative or toxic. this is a forum for discussion, correct? or is it a place where everyone smiles and agrees, yet laughs or curses behind one's back?

i prefer directness, honesty, and integrity anyday over diplomacy, which is just disguised treachery. fuck that.

Peanut, youre changing your tune from page 1. Is Buddhism "peddling lies" or "just not your cup of tea"?

to eekers: bc it's serious shit ... really you read sun-tzu and not just the way of zen?

did you like all the beheadings for lack of discipline?

anyway, these are FALSE paths. i am stating my opinion. if someone disagrees with me i don't jump to them being too serious or negative or toxic. this is a forum for discussion, correct? or is it a place where everyone smiles and agrees, yet laughs or curses behind one's back?

i prefer directness, honesty, and integrity anyday over diplomacy, which is just disguised treachery. fuck that.

since it's so important to you, do you want my full list of books i read during my asian studies track? i read sun-tzu, lao-tzu, stuff by actual eastern writers, not just alan watts. it's called comparative religions and having a broad knowledge base.

as far as false paths go, how's the one you're on? bc so far everything i have heard from you involves tragedy and hate. glad we're not on the same road!

this is totally a forum for discussion, but you have to be honest with yourself. are you making it a more positive or a more negative place? because from what i've seen, you seem to love to get into arguments with everyone. and not just discussion arguments, i'm talking nasty irrational brawls. maybe not in this thread, but certainly in others. take a look! oh wait, you deleted all your stuff... i wonder why?

and no, this is not a place of hypocrisy, otherwise i wouldn't have so openly disagreed with you. just tired of seeing you pee all over people's ideas with your irrational and uncalled for hate. there are ways of disagreeing and having an intellectual discussion without getting so offensive and ghetto, like you so love to do.

For one who claims to know the eight-fold path (and rejected it as "lies" [LIES I TELL YOU!]), you sure dont understand their tenets vis a vis honesty and integrity......

Re: Alan Watts On Buddhism
Alan Watts is a good soul and an intelligent man but it should remember he is hamper by lack of good translated original Buddhist source material. He is like a professor trying to describe all science with one or two physics textbooks only.

Like all that generation he puts too much emphasis on Zen and "emptiness" etc. This leads to unbalanced and partial understanding. Sorry to piss on your parade, he is of some value as I said. Particular for Western beginning level Audieces, and you can see he has obtained some level of inner wisdom.

I agree with ya, and he would too, probably. But let me tell ya, the sound of the rain needs no translation. A good Zen master can teach you by using Alice In Wonderland. No need for any fancy Zen or Buddhist texts.

the beauty of zen is that you can find it in the simplest things. just sit and observe, and it will reveal itself.
