Yeah, gravity waves are NOT what those are called. Gravity waves cannot be seen with the naked eye. They are theoretical in existence. The only time they should be somewhat easily observable by instrumentation we have today is if two black holes were spinning around each other hundreds of times per second, and the two event-horizons breached each other, and the two black holes collapsed into one black hole. This would cause such a gravitational disturbance that actual waves of gravity would be formed and would propagate outwards from the event. So what would you call the weather incident that caused this ship to get ripped from the moorings? Seems it was a combination of a freak wave and high winds that they are calling a "gravity wave."
